  • VisTitle Dongle Problem

I've searched the forums and see that others have had this problem, but I do not see a difinitive solution. I've also been in contact with George Dame, who sold me VisTitle, but he has not been able to help so far.

The problem is that the VisTitle dongle drops out of the system at random. When in Edius, I get an error message "E0003: VisTitle Key is not attached or is defective." and Edius crashes. When launching Edius, if he dongle is not illuminated, I get a the same message, but I can continue without the VisTitle plug-in by "cancelling" the error dialog.

I'm using Edius 5.51 and VisTitle 1.5.3.0 . The system OS is Vista (32bit) Ultimate, SP2, and I think all updates are current. I normally use a multi-port hub for my dongles (Edius and ProCoder3 constantly, and a couple others as needed). I've tried plugging the VisTitle directly into the motherboard USB ports, and I've even tried attaching the "optional" external power supply into the hub (to eliminate the possibility of a power overload with three dongles). And yes, I've even tried different hubs. And finally, I've tried plugging the VisTitle dongle in all the way and only part way, just in case there's a contact problem that might be the cause.

And I almost forgot....I have uninstalled and reinstalled VisTitle.

In any case, it's only the VisTitle dongle that exhibits the random drop outs. The others are all rock solid. I've been living with the VisTitle dongle problem for a couple of months now, but it's starting to drive me crazy, plus I've got a job to update some video that uses VisTitle extensively (sometimes I use VisTitle as an "After Effects Lite").

George Dame suggested I check the USB managment, etc. I've done this, and see nothing unusual. I'm convinced it's a defective dongle (I see from the forums that others have come to the same conclusion).

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

      John,

Thanks for gettig back to me on this issue. However, I don't think that it has anything to do with the version of VisTitle I am using. That is, I used an older version of VisTitle for over a year without a single incident. Also, I uninstalled and reinstalled the version of VisTitle that I used successfully for a year to no avail.

I'll download the update and install it just for the heck of it anyway. But I would be very surprised if anything changed.

Once I get past this problem, I'll be sure to report the solution on the forums. In the meantime, any other suggestions?

maybe an automatic windows update broke your dongle driver, seen this many times

so download and install the correct 5.95 driver here
Buy the domain name Esafe.com and launch your business with a premium domain and a high quality logo.

Do you have a chance to test this dongle in other computer ? If in other computer, it work well, then the dongle is not damaged.

Another, when the dongle is lost in your computer, its green light is on or off ?

If the dongle is ok, then I suggest you reinstall a clean system.
If it is damaged, then please contact with your dealer to replace a new one.

            Anton,

Thanks for the reply and the link. I have reinstalled the hasp driver, but it is only the one that came with the VisTitle install. My logic was that "if it worked for over a year, it should work now." However, I am aware that this logic can be flawed in that the PC is not a static environment. Updates, new software, etc. change things in ways unknown to the user. I guess that's one of the main downsides of the PC v. Mac. The Mac environment is much more controlled due to Apple's long-standing, relatively closed platform policy.

            Chen,

I'm not even sure exactly what the licensing allows me, but yes, I have installed VisTitle on one other computer. We have a vacation place at the beach, and I have an older Canopus NX system down there, running on XP Pro, etc. I installed Vistitle there so I could do some work when I took a few days off. (How sick is that! Working on vacation! lol). Anyway, the problem has happened there too.

To answer your question....When the dongle is lost to the computer, the light is OUT.

Update: I have been in touch with George Dane, who sold me VisTitle. He is getting in touch with "Jerry" at VisTitle to request that they service my request directly. My best guess at this time is that a new dongle is probably the solution...Although I will install the new driver as Anton suggests.

FWIW, I worked all day yesterday without a problem. This morning, it happened after less than a hour, and has repeated once since.

Update: I uninstalled hasp and installed the latest version. I had high hopes when the dongle did not drop out for eight or more hours of uptime.

But just now, "boing--Error.......missing or defective."

              :(

And I have not heard by email from George Dane or his contact in China to arrange for a replacement dongle. Guess I'll just have to be patient longer.

In the meantime, any other suggestions are appreciated.

Worked most of the day on two projects that incorporate VisTitle titles and some "AE Lite" animations. Not a single dongle drop out, until just now. And of course, it crashed Edius.

Still have not heard from George Dame, who said he'd CC me his email to "Jerry" at Vistitle. Of course, nothing from "Jerry" either. I'm getting a little discouraged with the customer service.

a dongle dropout should not and must not crash EDIUS, that needs to be fixed if true

                    Anton,

Invariably, Edius "freezes" when the VisTitle dongle drops out (as it did about a half hour ago). I think if I wait long enough, Edius reawakens, but I don't have a half hour to wait. Thus, I usually just force Edius closure in Task Manager (Processes tab forces closure...Application tab doesn't work), reboot the computer and open the project as "most recently saved."

I've got to find a way to get VisStar's attention. In a pleasant phone conversation with George Dame, he said he'd intiate the contact with the right VisStar person, but I haven't heard anything further from him or VisStar after nearly a week.

You've got someone from Visttitle in this thread and he is the person to talk to.
Can you try a pm with VX Chen?

There has been some progress....of sorts!

George Dame emailed me and contacted Jerry. Please everyone, I do not wish to disparage George. He's a great guy. I really enjoyed our brief visit in Delaware when he delivered Vistitle, and he has helped me with this problem a lot. He's a busy guy, and sometimes a day's patience or two is needed. Sorry, George.

So George wrote Jerry. Jerry wrote me that he'd send a new dongle if I sent my physical address. I did.

Then Jerry wrote again saying he was sending his "American colleague" a stock of dongles, and that mine would come through him.

Then VX Chen wrote asking that I download and install v1.8, and if that didn't solve the problem, to send him my physical address. Unfortunately, the dongle dropped out before I could even finish my first v1.8 title. So, now I'll send my physical address.

I guess sometime in the future, I could have anywhere from one to three new dongles to try out. In any case, I'll make sure I only keep one. :-)

Still nothing in the mail. It's been a month since I contacted the VisTitle supplier. Three avenues have promised a replacement, if only I would provide my address. I did each time. They haven't.

                              This is not satisfactory.
