Also have another question: you suggested the following TMPGEnc settings:
    • Encoder Mode: Automatic
    • Max Bitrate: 24000
    • Bitrate: 24000
    • Min. bitrate: 5830
    • Picture quality: 90%

Can you explain the 90% picture quality as opposed to 100% and what about the bitrates, they are set to lower than the Edius average output of 25000 and max of 35000 ?

    Am I missing something again?

    Regards....

the 90% has no meaning, because my source files are accepted, but if you are feeding it files that need encoding, you can use the above settings and drag the quality to 100

90 is the program default, I doubt you see a difference between 90 and 100

I noticed this post and wanted to ask a question. I just downloaded the Authoring Works trial and have imported an encoded 720p60 Mpeg-2 .m2v and its audio file into Authoring Works and it wants to re-encode the file.

The m2v file is 20GB yet AW disc output size is 10GB. I have the setting set as you show. Any other settings? Encore shows "don't transcode"...

      Thanks
I suspect that your video and audio combined exceed the limit, so it wants to re-encode

it could also be that the bitrate you used to create 60p file is too high

I also have not tested 60p at this stage

I suggest creating a short 10min 60p elementary stream and see if it still wants to re-encode

        Hi Anton,
Your receipt is absolutly correct:"... be sure to click and right click anything you see, you will find that TAW4 has advanced settings on every item;I suggest creating a short 10min 60p elementary stream and see if it still wants to re-encode". I export as I was authoring with DVDit! HD Pro. I put quality to 100% and TAW4 never gave me problemes and only reencodes menus according indications who are in Menu Wizard. It's very important to explore General Proprieties, Project Proprieties (Blu-ray proprieties),Preferences and all Wizards and Settings (Track Settings as a box where we can check "do not adjust the track size"). TAW4 has a good Knowdlege Base, Forum and User Support where we can find many answers. The Help file is not exhaustive: your correct and wise receipt must be observed!

In TAW4 I find out to keep my text in the template menu:
For all the chapter text turn down the opacity and add new text.
then save .So you got for your menu the text you want.

Well, I did a complete project with TAW4 (HD 1920 X 1080i) from MPEG2 files created in Edius (25,000 bitrate). I left the quality at 90% and there was no reencoding of the streams, only the menu streams. The quality is superb and the one thing that I enjoy most is the fact that you can configure everything exactly the way you want to (by using the right clicks and the adavanced settings) and it is very easy to accomplish. And by the way, I used programs streams (not elementary streams) and everything went just fine.

I also used the same project with the same Edius files and downconverted to SD within TAW4 (outputted to DVD instead of blu-Ray). The quality again is very good. I am not sure if the quality is as good as Anton's method, but it seems as good to me. Maybe Anton can test it for us and we can have his comments.....

TAW4 is now my encoder of choice for all my future projects, whether they are HD (Blu-Ray), downconversion from HD to SD (DVD) or straight SD (DVD).

Also it's possible double click old text than delete and write the new one. In each track it´s possible to put his name. There are many ways to obtain the same goal.

Thanks. I tried it with assets encoded in Adobe Media Encoder CS5 and they worked without transcoding.

I am testing this program against Encore for speed. I will post my results in the Lounge forum.

I wish there was a "write to image" feature instead of just folders or to disc. I know you can write the image from the disc writer section but it would be nice not to have all of these extra files & folders around all of the drives for every project.

At this point, I would really pay up for a from the timeline approach for both Blu & DVD. I hope TMPE's upcoming plugin has the quality to beat Edius's output and at least match AME CS5. You either have to buy more hard drives or buy the plugin, I would prefer the plugin.

With DVDit! HD Pro it' s the same: we can only write the image from the disc writer section.

well, it depends on your housekeeping, I only have one folder, which contains all the subfolders, but I don't see them unless I open the one folder

so I can't see a difference between one image or one folder

It seems more programs prefer to write images than write folders to disc.

Creating and storing an image file seems like a great way to be ready to write to optical disc.

Will a BR work if you just copy the folders onto it like a data disc? I don't know if making an image does anything beyond packaging?

                        no way, it won't

you need to do it the correct way by choosing BDMV Video if using Nero 10

and if using ImgBurn (free) follow this
                        1. Load ImgBurn! 2. Click the 'Write files/folders to disc' button. Note: This is basically the same as switching the 'Mode' to 'Build' and setting 'Output' to 'Device'. You should now see a screen like this: 3. Insert a blank (or erasable) Blu-ray disc in your burner. Note: The message in the st...

and you can also burn it with Edius Disk burner while Edius is closed, go to start, programs and find the Edius Disk burner

When using TAW4 , is there any way to use Photoshop designed/modified templates. Using Encore2 for SD for the past 5+ years, its a feature that I make great use of. (for convenience not because of any designers flair!)

                            yes and no

you can create a custom menu, lets say you choose a track only menu with 2 thumbnails

now in menu editor, double click the bg image and load your custom psd bg image 1920x1080 or 720x576

if the psd has layers, they won't be linkable

but you can make a bg image in PS with no layers and create your button images in PS as individual files

so, double click an existing button in TAW4 and load your psd button

you can also load the existing thumbnail and load your custom psd thumbnail

and if you ticked popup menu, then you can also double click each item in the popup editor and load your custom psd files
