  • any opinion on this software...

I saw several sample photo montages created on a program from AEPROJECTS.com (they are plugins for afterefects)...has anyone used them and exported to Edius etc. Thanks Gary

They don't seem to be any plugins...just presets and projects.

I mean if you're good with AE, then you can probably do all this stuff yourself without spending money.

My opinion is that even Adobe Premiere 6.02 was better and more versatile in handling still images than Edius. With Edius, I haven't been able to find out how to do the things I used to do:

Adjustable zoom ins and outs on images.

Adjustable panning (movement) of images from side to side, up/down, diagonally, etc.

I'm not talking about transitions, but rather applying standalone effects to individual still images.
      Regards,

      Jon

Video Layout tool doesn't do the basics for you?

I don't use EDIUS to do still image stuff. I use Imaginate. Although I have AE and do use AE, I found AE complicated just for still image animations. Imaginate is heck of a lot much easier.

I went into that website (AEProjects.com) and take a look. They don't have plugins ... they only have AE templates, presets and tutorials. Not sure what you want us to comment on now ... What are you looking for?

They are still using AE to produce their videos. So, if you want EDIUS to read that output, you can ask AE to produce it as either uncompressed AVI (very big files) or any of the available codecs that AE can output and EDIUS can read in - such as Canopus HQ. This assumes you install EDIUS and AE in the same partition under the same operating system.

No. When dealing with a slideshow, or still images only, Video Layout (F7) only allows resizing and repositioning of the individual still images, with no movement as time progresses.

I tried the "Loop Slide" effect. That has promise, but even at speed setting "1", it moves the still frame way too fast.

My old version of Premiere had a zoom and pan effect that allowed one to fully adjust the movement, zoom, pan, and speed of a still image or even a video clip.

It was similar to Edius's Video Layout (F7) interface, but also had mouse-moveable dots in the frame that allowed you to drag and move the center 'in' and 'out' points of the frame independently, adjust the speed, percentage of zoom, etc.

I'm surprised Edius doesn't have this feature.
                  Regards,

                  Jon

Why can't you folks just buy Imaginate (cheap software) and be done with? It does a very good job for still image motion. You can just open the IVP files in EDIUS and drop into timeline. So simple.

Thanks, TingSern, I'll take a look at Imaginate.

However, IMHO, Edius should already have this capability incorporated as an effect that can be applied to still images and clips.

Edius 5 does, maybe it's time to upgrade :)

                          Mr. Bill,

Thanks! I haven't looked at Edius 5 yet, and am always afraid to download trial versions. They can screw up your machine.

Is the interface the same or very similar to 4.6x? I don't want to have to learn, yet again, another interface.

And, I will be able to fully manipulate and control still images (slow zoom-in/out, side to side, top to bottom, etc.)?
                          Regards,

                          Jon

Not much of an interface change at all. Yes you will be able to do basic moves.

It will be more cost effective for me to get Imaginate.

If I upgrade to Edius 5.0, then I also have to upgrade to ProCoder 3.0, because I would lose ProCoder Express capability (only works with Edius 4.x or older).
