Is there any reason not to install the Smart Sound program on a
Edius editing work station? It will be a stand alone program. I am always careful about installing new programs on my work stations.

    Thanks

I've had it on a DV Rex, a Storm based and now the HD Storm based computers with no interactive problems.

I use Smart Sound on the same system as my Edius 5. Never a problem. I agree with Steve though, a native plug-in would be great. There was a native plug-in I used back in Premier days. It did make the job easier. Sure would be good to have it available in Edius.

I have spoken to Smartsound about the quicktracks plugin for Edius and they said that they would be happy to do one, BUT Grass Valley won't come to the party for some weird reason...

I have Smartsound too - installed it with EDIUS 5 - no problems at all.

Yes - I approached Smartsound for a EDIUS plugin too - and got the exact reply from them - Glass Valley not interested .... very funny !!!

I've submitted a Product Feature Request for the necessary changes to Edius, so that a plug-in for Sonicfire Pro from Smart Sound can be developed and integrated into Edius. (If you like the idea, support the feature request when/if it is published).

Edius V5.01 and SonicFirePro V5.02 run here side by side without a problem. Be sure that your Quicktime is up to date.

There's an updated "product feature request" for a Smart Sound plug-in for Edius. If you are a Sonicfire Pro user, you may consider showing your support!

I've used SmartSound for a few years now and have an extensive library of their music. This is a great app for video. It makes scoring music so easy. Although I used to use Avid Liquid (and it has a plug in for SmartSound), I still preferred to use the stand alone version with all of it's features and control. I can't really see the advantage of the plug in. It so easy to export a wav file and just bring it into the bin in Eduis. If you want to score to the video then bringing in a low res video to SmartSound is just as easy and quick.

The plugin makes it easier to access the Smartsound encoded materials directly in EDIUS. If you have used QUICKTRACKS before, you know what I am talking about.

I have SMARTSOUNDS standalone program too - I do find it easy to score complete videos from that program.

But, if you just want ONE "sound" from the library on the timeline of EDIUS, you are stuck. Have to launch smartsounds, figure out exactly how long the music you want, export the music to WAV, then - import it into EDIUS BIN, then drag it to timeline. Too many steps.
