It comes down to what chip you will run, home many M.2 NVME's you will run, and how many SATA ports you need. Also, the Z690 runs DDR4 and the Z790 runs DDR5. Here is a comparison of the Z690 vs the Z790 boards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKvCvaY96zE
    Do your research.

      Hi Jerry,

Sorry, I should have added more info in my post. I plan to use a Z790 motherboard with an i9-13900, only need 2 M2 drives, a GTX 4080 (for use with Resolve). I still want to be able to use my BM Intensity Pro 4K..

Get at least a 1200wt PSU and a board with at least 20+1 phases. Big hint, learn how to undervolt. Lots of Asus ROG screenshots for undervolting

The Z790 ROG Maximus Hero is a great board for the 13900k. AFAIK the intel boards are not having the same issues as the AMD boards with extreme overvolting.

          Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the tips. I don't plan to overclock. I just wondered if this type of motherboard (aimed at media creators) really would make a difference as opposed to ROG Maximus Hero?

Since you aren't overclocking, the Creator should work for you. Also, if you aren't overclocking the GPU you can come down to 1000wt. PSU. Don't cheap out on this.
The only thing to watch out for are the power transients. These are power spikes that occur during use of the system. Cheaper PSU's can't handle these as well.

i built a 13900k, 1300 watts source, 128gb ram 5600mhz, rtx 3070ti, Asus Hero 790, M.2 system, m.2 for render and 01 raid 0 ssd 4tb, watercooler pl360 flux cooler master masterliquid, lian li 011 dynamic xl rog edition, 7 fan deepcool, Edius X WG works well, intel graphics working perfect, windows 21h2, some observations, when you mount the Raid, and the pc is formatted, it does not appear on the desktop, you have to install Intel Rapid Storage, then the raid will appear, another question is the lan drive, microsoft does not have it yet, if you install windows 22h2 the hi-fi does not appear, in my case I have a tplink hifi pen drive, then the network appears, no problem temperature, another detail is the DDRs, to install 128gb it was a sweat, you have to set the frequency, you can't use xmp, but another bios update should come out to fix these bugs, I'm using bios 904, in the after mark for do not use 100% of the cpu, Edius x works and recognizes the intel graphics, Edius works perfect, without crashing, without closing, I use an EVGA audio card without audio, the video card works at 16x, 3 Dell 27 monitors. intensity black magic. I installed the Thermalright LGA17XX-BCF, Asus z90 hero has 02 Thunderbolt 4, other Asus cards do not

stay clear of motherboards where it takes two hours to replace a CMOS battery, I had to do this today

the CMOS of the Proart requires mobo removal and removal of the IO board shield in order to unplug the CMOS battery, and then no shop has such a battery

I ended up cutting off the wires and soldering them onto a new 3V battery designed with solder lugs

Well perhaps I have been lucky but my present motherboard is now 9 years old and never needed the CMOS battery replaced. Just for the record, what type of battery is on the ProArt board, as Anton says it is difficult to source?

it looks like a laptop bios battery with two wires soldered onto the 3V battery with a special tiny microscopic 2 pin plug that needs to be inserted into the motherboard in an area that requires mobo removal and lots of cusring, You also need to remove the waterpump and apply fresh compound if watercooled. I don't build PCs without water cooling

btw, most regular CMOPS batteries last 10 or more years, this one lasted 2 years and 11 months and measures 0.42V instead of 3V or more

Just coming back to this topic. It has been sugggested that I try the Asus B760 ProArt Creator instead. This motherboard seems to have the CMOS battery easily accessible.

                            Any thoughts on this board?
