EDIUS 7 unable to edit in multicam mode

Testing EDIUS 7 on my laptop, want to know if I'm asking too much.

Unable to playback the 3 cams videos.

My rig: laptop Lenovo X220, i5 2.5Ghz, GPU Intel HD3000, RAM 8GB, HDD 320GB, SSD 64GB. Power settings High Performance.

    Clips: .m4v H.264 MainL4.2 9Mbps 50fps, all on the SSD

Playback it's clunky, even skipping 5 frames. Finally EDIUS stopped responding and I need to kill the process.

Strange is CPU it's not working, GPU it's loaded even when I'm not doing anything. After killing EDIUS fan stopped working.

I attach screenshot of current situation. There are any EDIUS setting that is forcing my laptop to work even without any editing in place?

It looks like your processor is not the best for editing H.264 and 3 streams is most likely out of the question.
Maybe you should convert your streams to HQX

There isn't any way to avoid constant GPU work, even without editing?

Tried to convert to HQX but will generate a 100GB file from a 4GB clip, will be still usable from an external USB2 connected HDD?

I'm also thinking to buy a new dedicated rig, can anyone comment on this one:

You're asking an awful lot of a consumer laptop.
        Have you tried Proxy Mode?
Sure, there's conversion. But the files are dinky.

Enabled proxy mode....will need hours to complete.

This is the last attempt to use EDIUS on my laptop, I think not only it's too much for the hw but also can be dangerous due to the high temperature coming from constant 100% CPU or GPU work.

          Next step new rig.

Ok the experiment it's already finished.

After creating the third proxy file EDIUS started again to not respond and I need to kill it again.

Probably the CPU at 100% for so long became too hot the be stable and the process cannot be completed.

So no way to use EDIUS and I think any other editor for this project on this laptop.

What do you think about my planed new hw described above?

              SSD for OS?
What will you do with all those old PCI slots?

My budget it's about $1300 (€1000), so will try to optimize something here and there (case maybe corsair 200r or coolermaster N300 and maybe CPU cooler Raijintek Themis) to also accomodate SSD in the budget, but it's not essential.

Do you suggest 1866Mhz RAM? Worth the difference?

Old PCI slots something such as Asrock Z97 Extreme3/Pro3 can be better?
