Great laptop for AVCHD encoding

I know several videographers who are encoding AVCHD footage to HQ, and most do not like the delay while transcoding takes place. We just got a new laptop that can handle some AVCHD right from the timeline, but will also transcode really quickly. We bought this system to do Same Day Edits and it worked great on last weekends SDEs. So if you have been frustrated with encoding times on a laptop, this system really speeds up the process.

Mark or others: how long is it taking you to transcode AVCHD to HQ on your laptop, per minute of source material? Anyone have a figure for this for Canon 7D footage?

Mmm.. $2200 is steep I think, allthough HP is nice. The best laptop I have tried yet, is the Fujitsu H700 with an i7 or i5 processor - in europe they are cheaper than your HP and can do at least 2 streams AVCHD native on Edius 6. I think HQ on a laptop is not the optimal choice, unless you are working with an external eSata raid or such.

The H700 is a nice machine for the price.

I doubt the machine is still available, and even if it is, a Core 2 Duo would be a poor choice compared to i3 and i5 systems.
