New system with I-7-950 and Windows-7 64bit. Which graphic card?

When Windows-7 64bit will be delivered, I will have a new system ready for Edius 5.11 (mostly HDV)

Hardware will be:
Asus P6T DLX V2
Intel I-7-950
3 x 2GB triple-memory kit
HDStorm (no FCB!)
RME-Sound system (in PCI-slot)
“Lots” of disk-space, one system-disk, 4 or 6 SATA II 500GB drives, as Raid 10

Is Intel ICH10R sufficient, or do I need separate PCIe-Raid controller?

I have not decided which graphics card I shall chose, most possible a NVIDIA-model, but which type?

As it will not be used for gaming, it will not have to be the most advanced model, but it should not be a bottleneck.

What would you recommend?

Most video cards for editing don't have to be top of the line, a 9600GT or up, a 250 GTS or 260GTX, with a minimum of 512m, higher end cards need humungous power supplies, there are power supply calculators on line to aid in selection of supplies

I prefer a hardware RAID if possible but I don't think there is a huge difference if you will use RAID 0. This has been debated here quite a bit so do a search if you want more opinions.

With the 64 Bit system you might want to get more RAM.
Also do your homework at Sharkeyextreme or toms hardware or anandtech regarding the video card.

In my other system I have Avid Liquid 7.2. This SW is demanding on graphic-card-performance. But with a NVIDIA GTX 7950 x2 I can play 9-10 HDV tracks in RT. (PAL)

I heard that Edius is not so demanding and as newer cards have more performance, I do hope a NVIDIA GTX 260 /275 will do

Edius wont do as many layers of Pnp as liquid as liquid does it all on the graphic card and edius does not. Edius 3D layers performance is similar to the liquid CPU pnp effects. On 2D pnp it can do a lot.
We use 9800 512MB cards - quiet cheap and still good and good enough for edius.
The only part of edius that uses the GPU are the 3d transitions. If you are doiung a lot of them you may want to get a better card.

GTX 260 is a great bang for the $$$.

ICH10 will yield about 178MB/sec (average read speed) with two Seagate 7200 SATA-300 drives striped RAID 0. It peaks at about 220MB/Sec with the slowest tracks (inner) at about 150MB/Sec. HDtach reports this with +/- 2% CPU Usage. That is sufficiant for most HD editing.

If redundant RAID 5 or 6 is desired then go with a hardware raid controller. Promise, High Point and Arreca are a few good ones. One with Intel Raid 6 hardware engines are my preferred but you will pay a few $$$ more for.
