Fixing sound pops in Edius 3.61

No sure if this is a shortcoming in Edius 3.62, but is there a way to fix 'pops and crackles' on a soundtrack in Edius...? I understand there is SoundSoap, but isn't that a third party product?

SoundSoap is a third-party tool, but it integrates with Edius through the VST plugin interface, and it does come bundled with some versions of Edius. If you have it, I would definitely use it, it has a "Remove Clicks & Crackles" control.

If you don't have SoundSoap, you can try Audacity, which is a free cross-playform audio editor. The latest Unicode beta release is the one I would use. It has a learning noise-removal feature, though it is not a powerful as SoundSoap. It also has a Repair filter that can fix short (<= 128 samples) audio problems like pops.

In either case I would export the troublesome audio as a uncompressed PCM WAV file, fix it, and substitute the resulting file for the original audio. That's because the VST version of SoundSoap introduces a delay that makes the audio go out of sync.

Hey folks,

I just found Soundsoap om my bonus CD but it asks for a serial number and authorization code upon install, and I don't know where to look for these!

On the cd sleeve of the Edius install disk, thre is one sticker with the edius serial, and another that just says serial number, and then a code starting with BSS.

I bloody wish I didn't have to do any assuming here, but I assume that BSS stands for Bias Sound Soap. Problem is, the install also asks for an authorization code, and the mysterious BSS code is all she wrote.

Why can't this stuff just be straight forward?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1. go to the soundsoap website and download the latest version, the one on the Edius CD is an old version with terrible activation, you wait almost a day to get activation code via email

the latest version is simple to activate, simply enter the BSS number and then click activate, providing you have internet connection, all will be well

so you will need to register the one from the Bonus CD, then you enter your email address to download the 2.1.1 update, then this 2.1.1 is easy to activate

also, after installing Sounsoap from Bonus CD, you will have troubles starting Edius until Soundsoap is finally activated, allow up to one day to receive activation code

however, Edius will start when you kill the soundsoap activation request popups

Edius will crash if you try and use soundsoap prior to activation

in my case, I purchased the standalone version of Soundsoap before it became available via Edius4, so I don't suffer from these issues on my PC, but I do suffer from this when building machine for customer

The thing starting with BSS is the key for SoundSoap -- I believe it is an acronym for BIAS SoundSoap.

In any event, register the serial number with BIAS, and they will issue you a new serial number (they changed their activation scheme). After you get the new serial number, download the patch and install it. Doing that not only gets you a new VST plugin, but also the standalone SoundSoap executable which you should use on the exported WAV file.
