  • Upgrading multiple copies of Edius 4.x

Has anyone successfully upgraded multiple copies of Edius 4.x to 5 with the free upgrade? GV is telling me now that I can only upgrade 1 copy free - even though there is no limit on the upgrade form. I've tried for hours to get through the phone line with nothing but "please hold". I faxed in my order a couple of days ago and GV emailed me saying no dice. Since then, they have refused to respond to emails.

All I want is what the terms clearly say I'm entitled to. Kenneally or Brandon (or any GV staff) any comment?

    Thanks,
    Panagiotis

I thought the option for upgrading EDIUS 4 to 5 FOC is only meant for those people who brought the EDIUS 4 very close to the availability of EDIUS 5? AND I understand from Kenneally that the option of getting FOC upgrades is no longer available.

In order to qualify for this upgrade (when it was available) - you have to show proof of date of purchase AND surrender your EDIUS 4 dongle when you do the upgrade.

As Tingsern alluded to, I'm not even sure that free upgrades for v4.x licenses bought just prior to v5 shipping, are still being honoured.

Certainly, there should be no stipulations (that I am aware of) that would prevent a $249 upgrade - it's 1-for-1 there.

Since when did we have to surrender our dongles?

That was a misunderstanding - dongles were only meant to be returned for the free 1-for-1 upgrade, through reseller channels.

$249 upgrades do not require returning a dongle - you can keep the old one.

            Hi everybody,

I thought this thread was referring to 1-1 FOC EDIUS 4 to 5 upgrade. Right? If that's being the case, you will need to return the EDIUS 4 dongle. On the other hand, if you are PAYING for the upgrade (US$249 - until 31st Dec 08), there is NO need to return the EDIUS 4 dongle.

I hope I am clear on this issue now?

            Thanks,

This thread is referring to two copies of Edius 4 bought on August 17. This clearly qualifies for the free upgrade. I upgraded one copy shortly after Edius 5 was available and I'm trying to upgrade my second copy now. I faxed in (since the phone doesn't work) my order on December 16 which also is in the qualifying time. GV sent an email saying only one free upgrade per customer. This is stated nowhere on the upgrade form and so I think I'm entitled to this free copy. I DID send proof of purchase with it. GV has not responded by email yet - that is why I am asking for feedback here.

I am certainly not an official voice on this, but if you bought 2 separate copies of EDIUS with both falling into the free upgrade period, then GV would upgrade both of those copies. I know that was the policy in the past, so I would be very surprised if that was changed.

Yip . I think you have to make sure to supply both serial numbers so sales will know that those are really 2 separate copies. ( and a proof of purchase for both)

Which I did. I registered both copies so both serial numbers are in the product registry and both copies were purchased at the same time so they are on the same invoice. I'm just so frustrated - not just because they initially said "no", but because they won't communicate now.

Sorry, we don't get to make the sales rules, but unless there's a specific wording that free-of-charge upgrades are limited to one per customer, I would think they're limited to one-per-license (meaning if I bought 3 copies, I could get 3 free-of-charge upgrades) but again, I don't get to make those decisions.

If you have a Edius 5 dongle do you know if the 5 dongle will work with Edius 4? Thanks

Interesting I Just found this where someone says it does?

Does upgrading to 5 involve a dongle swap?

If so will 4.x run on the 5 dongle?
