  • Edius 4 not working with Vista

I have just taken delivery of an Alienware PC laptop: dual core 2.6's, 3GB RAM, dual hard drives, Vista home premium, and after installing Edius 4 the software will not open, I just get a message saying 'Edius main has stopped working'. All of the Canopus software does the same, including DVcapture, MPEG capture, and DISCapture. Is there a solution to this? It all seemed to work on the old laptop on XP.
    Thanks

Edius 4 only works on XP

You need Edius 5 for it to work on Vista

And I suppose I have to pay for this? It's a bit crap that it won't work. Back to Premiere CS3 then...

why is it not possible to create an update/patch for the older software owners that don't want to upgrade the whole software for the sake of the OS? I am perfectly happy with version 4. I had the PC's stolen from my office through a break-in, and the replacment had Vista (I had no choice).

reformat your new PC and install XP, Edius4 will run much better, and you will have more Ram available

Vista 32bit uses all Ram just doing nothing

Are you sure there is not another problem? I can run Edius v4 on Vista (32 or 64) even though it's not factory supported.
It may simply be a Vista/Edius setup problem (search other posts here - there's plenty) and just check.
And, if nothing else, RAM is much more efficient under Vista. Just needs to be managed properly.

Yep Yep Yep, should run fine under both 32 & 64bit editions of Vista, I ran it on Vista 64bit without any problems at all.

I am almost certain that Edius4 will not work with Vista

Edius 4.5 or later may work as others have confirmed

I recall many saying they used E4 with Vista in the past.
The complaint was lack of hardware support, now available under E5.
