  • Time limit for capture?

Is there a time limit for capture using edius 4.11?

I set the in point at 10 seconds and my out point at 1.16.30.00

It was a vhs tape I copied to an 80minute minidv so I could return the tpae whilst my pc was down.

    I ended up with 15 files, 13 were 146kb, 14th was 3gb, but wouldn't open, 15th was 13gb but wouldn't open/import.

Premeire used to only work on batch capture to 59.59.24, is edius the same?

I'll try again anyway with a smaller out point and keep seeing how I go.

I may have found the reason for this problem. Edius over-runs on the capture by about 3 seconds, no doubt in the settings somewhere, and I think this caused it to go past the timecode and confuse the hell out of it, as it did with premiere.

I've captured again now in small blocks and all is well.

I haven't another tape longer than 1hr to try it on and I don't want to capture this all again, though I might for my own satisfaction......

Can't tell you yet... the file captures, 16+gb, but it crashes Edius when I try to load it.

I've turned of the pc now for the night, so will try again in the morning.

I often get requests to transfer VHS to DVD, so I capture up to 3 hours in one hit, then export to first 90min to DVD1 and the second 90 min to DVD2

a 3 hour continuous capture presents no problem

over 3 hours may be a problem because the wav file format allows a max size of 2GB

I would say you have a serious problem with your PC or your hard disk config

I also don't have any problems capture a dvcam tape 124 min into 1 file.

It might have been all the messing I was doing yesterday to try to get it working properly, as this morning the 16gb file went on the timeline in the blink of an eye and played just like any other.

I'm getting happier by the day :)

Once again in the settings/application settings/deck settings there are two settings at the top of the window. One is pre-roll and the other is Margin. The Pre-Roll is fortelling the deck to back up the tape 5 seconds (Default) and get the tape rolling before the capture point.

The second one (Margin) is for telling Edius to capture two seconds before the inpoint you created and two seconds after the outpoint. These are more commonly called handles.

That is whey it is going 2 seconds past your capture point :)
