  • hdv to sd dv workflow.

    Hi all-
I'm shooting on jvc cameras, and since cameras and deck do not downconvert hvd to standard dv, I need a workflow in edius (neo at present; HDstorm and V5 on order) to do this.
I tried capturing the material, then changing the project settings to SD, and rendering the timeline- but it will not play out to my deck. I had to use TMPGenc Express to convert it to a quicktime dv format, and re-import it - to an SD project- to get this to work.
Is there any easy way to get an HDV project (720p 25) down-converted to SD (16:9 50i)?
I'm a little mystified by the canopus hq settings: I *think* they default to HD in an HD project, but use canopus' DV codec for SD? I was hoping for the ability to export as canopus dv from an hd project- or a way to simply change the project settings, and render the timeline to SD and play out.
    Any ideas?
    TIA- Rob

After you change your project to DV, make sure in project settings that you have it set render to DV instead of HD, but unless your computer is weak, you should be able to just hit the space bar and it should playback realtime to DV deck for you without rendering the timeline first.

Thanks for the reply- so I guess it should work! I'll try it under less pressure! This was running neo on a T61 lenovo- dual core 2.2 2GB ram, 512 nvidia gfx. It was certainly not playing out in real time- before or after I rendered it. Not until I used a third-party programme to encoe to dv.
The render setting is Canopus HQ- hence my other question: is that "hd" or is it canopus dv- depending on the project setting? I don't see any specific dv setting options. I'm running neo, though, so maybe it's different?
      Cheers- Rob

Sorry I thought you were using Edius, I don't know anything about Neo, maybe somebody working Neo can help you, but you HQ is HD, your dv deck will not see it so you need to render to DV in order for your DV deck to understand.

Worked it out ok- for some reason with no deadline pressing, it was all so simple!
There are no options that allowed me to change the project settings to 16:9 SD 50i (there were progressive SD 50 options). But it was dead simple to start a new SD 16:9 50i project, import the 720p m2t files, and play them from the timeline in real-time, into the deck. Didn't have to render at all. Not sure if it's the best possible quality, but it looks ok.
