Where can I find an explanation of the different codecs and choices I have in project settings/outut settings? As in when I would use which for what. I checked the manual and Googled but I only get what codec exsists not the why to use certain settings. Maybe what I want doesn't exsist. Right now I only work in SD pal DV and finish with DVD. It is confusing to a non professional (maybe also to a pro)as to what output settings to use and what capture settings to use for optimum quality first and then size and speed.

Your best bet is to try and match the settings to the material you are editing. If you are editing PAL SD, then choose a PAL SD preset.
