Set an In and Out point over the area you want to render, and use either Shift Alt Q or Shift Q.

    Going black issue

Hi there people! I guess I'm experiencing a similar problem, but not exactly the same. It happens with titles and effects too - but the most annoying is the following issue: if i have two (or more) video tracks and i render (Shift+G) the one(s) above, the one below turns black. If I open any of them in the layouter the problem seems to disappear, but when I go back to the timeline its partially black again. I'm pretty sure it's not a codec problem of any sort, because in other circumstances all the codecs seem to work fine. So basically the problem is that in some cases I have to render, because otherwise things are a bit too slow - but if I do part of the clips turn black as if I chose black as a background color to the clip above or something... I hope someone understands what I'm trying to say :) Even better if this someone can help me too! Thanks a lot adn good editing to everybody!

That's where the problem occurs, when rendering the timeline to a finished HQ AVI file.
Sorry, I meant rendering to Canopus DV *.avi instead of HQ. Just to be sure if your problem is codec related or not.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I haven't absolutely determined all of the issues involved, but it may turn out to not involve Edius. I am rendering out from the timeline at the moment to see if the problem has been solved.

One of the problems relates to bad frames written during net-rendering from my animation programs. This has been very rare in the past but I have been using some new hardware and methods in the last few days and this seems to relate. Basically, lots of slave systems were writing frames to a hard disk across the network and really hammering the system in doing so. Out of 5200 frames, about 5 of a background layer were somehow partially corrupt.

I don't know a lot about disk writing, but you would think that if the hardrive was busy, the slave system would simply wait before writing the frame to make sure it was good.

Randy, this was with 3D PIP that I got the black flashes.

OK, it appears that it was corrupt render as the new rendered HQ files from the timeline look good. I'll have to look further into this tommorrow when I'm not so tired.

    Thanks again.

I can reproduce it using 2d pip(Mike is that what you are using?) and jumpbacks which are QT p sources that have been converted with Procoder to HQ upper. I also think I have seen it before with just HQ captured in 60i from my camera that was used in some older projects then brought into new ones. And I get black as you mentioned. Each file by itself plays fine but when they are used in 2d pip I get first two of the three pips going black then the background flashes black then the third pip goes black leaving the whole screen black and then it is back to all well....all this happens in 8 frames. I think it is a 2dpip thing since the same sources work fine in 3d pip..

Mike, I have this problem with some of the Digital Juice stuff when it is rendered. But it flashes a green screen. Randy, who has an identical system to mine, has the same thing.

    Zorro,

That's where the problem occurs, when rendering the timeline to a finished HQ AVI file. When viewing in the timeline itself, it looks fine. But when rendering out the timeline, there are black flashes in the PIP.

    Thanks!

What does it look like when you render the timeline eg to a Canopus *.avi?

Flashing to Black When Render HQ

I am having a bit of a problem. I have a project that is 1280x720p with an approximate 3 minute edit. I consider it pretty simple with 1 layer of HQ video (720p) running throughout and 2 3D PIPs HQ video (720p) overlayed on the first layer. There are also several layers of titles done in Quick Titler. The edit is done and all looks well (of course there is not enough horsepower to play realtime so I am just stepping through).

When I go to render a finished HQ file, one of the HQ PIPs has several instances where it flashes to black. If I play the PIP HQ file by itself, it plays fine with no bad frames. Only the finished, rendered HQ file has this problem.

Not sure what to do to solve this. I'm thinking that this one PIP HQ file may be somehow corrupt where it visibly looks OK but has something not kosher that Edius doesn't like when it goes to process the rendering?

    Thanks!
