  • Capturing analog video with EDIUS NX Express board . . .

    Hi guys!

I have small problem with capturing analog signal from VHS recorder/player via component input on my NX Express board. Well - i can capture the footage using Edius software, but only when i'm in "Edius mode" (using "ADVC mode", EDIUS cannot "see" the component/s-video inputs, and therefore i cannot use them for capture, and set all the options enhancing captured video). So my question is: how to capture an analog video using all the capabilities that an NX board provides? (i mean with all the filtering, noise removing etc.), or how to properly configure Edius to capture such a signal?

    Please help me. Thanks!
    Tom.

    1) I guess that you mean composite, not component...NX Express has only composite/S analog inputs and Component output only...

    2) ADVC mode is not supposed to be used with Edius...It makes the NX board an analog <-> DV converter for other applications like Avid Xpress...

:) of course i meant composite (word mistake :) )

So i guess when i switch mode to ADVC, my PC (or in this case- NX board) becomes a thing similar to ADVC converters? I was thinking about getting the best quality of captured analog footage, i have some old vhs tapes for recovery. What would you recommend to do - capture using edius or capture in advc mode with... ?

      Regards.

        Exactly

Capturing from the analog inputs using a third party application will limit your input format to DV...(analog->DV)
Capturing without the ADVC mode (using Edius) will give you the choise of other codecs as well...including uncompressed...
So I guess that it is better to capture using Edius and an uncompressed\lossless codec...

          ok :)

but in this case all the processing and correction with captured video i have to do manually- all the noise and artifacts removing, color correction, yea?

          Thanks anyway!

In Edius, under settings, then input settings, there is a box called Image Adjustment under the sliders. This will open a box to adjust the image.
