  • HD Storm Edius 5 new install and TMPro

I am considering HD Storm with BOB and would install it on a new system...a brand new clean install of Edius 5...which, in the case of HDStorm, comes WITHOUT TMPro...so, although I've seen information about how to use TMPro in HD Storm/Edius 5 going from Edius 4.61 while doing an upgrade...how can I get TMPRo installed in a NEW clean Edius 5 package that comes with HDSTORM...since there would be NO previous version of Edius OR TMPRo on the machine?

Or would I be stuck with Quick Titler and 3rd party programs? That might be a sales killer for me.

TMP for v5 is $299, or, you can upgrade your v4 for $249 and get a bonus license of EDIUS v5 to boot!

Any other method of shoehorning an older TMP into the software is going to be ugly, and not guaranteed to be faultless, either.

      A few questions-:

      1. Is the TMP for Edius 5 a completely new version with extra features?

      2. I already own TMP. If it's not a new version with extra features why should I be required to buy a new one when I'm upgrading to V5?

      3. Why is it not included in the bundled versions?

      Thanks.
      Cheers,
      Stuart.

Unfortunately, they are making it hard to go to the HDStorm option. I have 3.61 and my trusty DVStorm card and BOB on an older P4 system. My new system does NOT have any Edius...so unless i load up Edius 3.0 and go from there I will not have TMPro...seems an illogical way to go...

I may just upgrade to Edius 5, and keep the extra $1000 that would have gone to Grass Valley for the HDStorm option.

That raises the question...will I be able to put Edius 5 on my new computer WITHOUT first loading in 3.0? I thought that Edius 5 was a newer version that was markedly distinct from 4.0 and previous versions, so that it was a " stand-alone" product. Perhaps this doesn't hold for "upgrades."

Now I've gotten myself really confused and the upgrade clock is ticking...:-)

5 is a 'new' product and will uninstall older versions of Edius.
so to newer your question yes you can install it on a new system without installing any old version of Edius.

You shouldn't need to load 3.x to install a 5.x upgrade - I believe the 'upgrade' term implies that it will prompt for proof of ownership of a previous product during installation (a cd or serial number, for example).

It is still possible to install v5 cleanly.

And lose TMP in the process when upgrading to the HDSTORM?

I don't believe that you can use a TMP V3.0 disc to verify- it must be a V4.0. Unless you guys have now confused me too.

I believe that is the case - it will ask for a v4 TMP disc for verification.

Ok, so the bundled upgrade version doesn't come with TMP but will install TMP if you previously own it?

No, your v4 TMP disc will complain of there being no v4 installed..

I have V4 inc TMP so the bundled version will ask for the v4 TMP disk?

The v5 TMP in an EDIUS v5 upgrade pack will ask for a TMP v4 disc to install.

The v5 TMP in a full EDIUS v5 package, won't.

                            That makes sense now.

It was suggested previously that while the bundled version didn't include TMP, it wouldn't install TMP if you already owned it and the only way was 'shoehorning'.

                            Thanks.

So, I made a decision and bought the Edius 5 upgrade. I passed on the HDStorm. Fortunately I have Edius 4 on the shelf (never installed it) with the correct TMPro disc.
