  • After latest nVidia GeForce drivers, Edius 4.61 won't start anymore

    Hello all!

I am facing a strange issue with Edius Pro 4.61 just after video card driver update:
When clicking on the Edius icon after nVidia Geforce driver update and reboot, program just won't start... A message box shows up immediatly (before Edius splash screen display). It tells me program cannot run and reinstalling the software might help... Unfortunately, it doesn't :-(
Did anyone ever encounter this problem?
If yes, how did you solve that issue?

The only workaround I have found so far is to restore the computer to an earlier restoration point.

    Configuration:
    Windows XP Pro 32-bit + SP3
    GeForce 8800 GT
Tested with nVidia Geforce 180.48 WHQL just released and even the 2 previous versions.

Many thanks for any help you can provide on that matter.

    Fab
    Edius Pro 4.61

I just installed the same V180.48 drivers on my Windows XP Pro 32-bit SP3 system with a 8800 GTS, and my Edius Broadcast V4.61 still starts up and runs normally.

      Thanks for this test.
I guess there is something "special" with my operating system that makes a difference...

My idea....if its not broken, dont fix it.....I learnt that too well the hard way.....just because it says update does not mean that your specific system config. will work better....most times it dont......and if I do an update, I do a program modification.......that is, do as a reinstall, and when I get the message giving me the choices, ' Modify, Repair, Uninstall', I choose Modify, and sometimes.....sometimes that works.....but if I have projects on my PC, I dont update drivers in a hurry,....I wait til I am finished, and then do my updates.........and make any tests afterwards. Sometimes those updates are to help users with newer boards, and can really cause headaches with older ones, and not becuase you bought the board yesterday means that it is new....it could have been manufactured as much as a year earlier, so always bear that in mind...what is the update for......

            Thanks Alade for your advices.
This what I will do, I mean just don't update driver.
The only thing that is really disturbing is that I don't understand what would be the relationship between Edius, nVidia driver and that damned error message. Of course, Edius displays on screen, but why does the display driver prevents Edius to start... That is still a mystery...

The relationship was added from v4.5 onward - EDIUS can use the GPU to produce the video overlay. Roll back you graphics drivers and see if it comes good.

Also make sure your DirectX is at v9.0c

EDIUS Version 5.01 and new XP PRO install here, DirectX 9.0c.

                Latest nvidia driver

EDIUS wont start. Will try rollback

I don't know why this is different to a Vista install (which is working fine) but this is what's happening for me (using a test XP system)

When you double click the EDIUS 5 icon the splash screen starts, then I get the XDCAM select window (why). i close this but EDIUS does not open. I stop the XDCAM select process from task manager, still EDIUS will not open.
But wait, Quick Titler process is also running??? If i close that process, then EDIUS starts. (nothing to do with the nvidia driver as far as i can tell)

I would try a previous nvidia driver to be sure

                    no problems with starting here

I've gone to the original driver CD with my GPU, which of course is not that old anyway, but it's not the most recent release..

that is very strange, something is not right

I personally would wish for an option to not even install QuickTitler or XDCAM Select during installation

I use XDCAM but never use XDCAM select, windows explorer is soo much more user friendly

It's a fresh Windows install too Anton (SP2) plus EDIUS 5.01 is all that's installed on the drive.
