Edius crashes whole pc

My problem in brief from the beginning.
Motherboard failed on agp slot.

Bought new mobo, pcie graphics card, core2duo processor and ram, used rest of items from old pc.

All programmes worked, except premiere 6.5 via storm. Movie maker would capture and edit. Storm edit wouldn't work either.

Lots of trials, sent storm card to Canopus UK, who tested it and said it had failed.

£300+ for replacement no warranty Storm card?

No I spent £1200 on Edius Express and new front bay. Thought I might as well keep up with the latest hardware, to go with my new pc.

While waiitng for my new card, I reformatted my vista drive, installed Vista 64 bit to see what it was like and also installed trial of Premiere CS3. It worked like a dream.

Reformatted drive and installed XP SP2 32 bit.
Installed Photoshop 7 - used this yesterday to design adn rpint off lots of dvd case inserts.
Installed printer drivers, and printed off lots of dvd isnerts and dvds, using laser printer and ink jet printers.
Installed imaginate 1 and Ulead workshop se and then the 2 upgrade.


Installed my nx cards last night, installed the software this morning, following the method in the instruction manual.

Edius lets me choose the settings, so I opt for sd pal dvi50 and the nx card as input device but as soon as I click on next it just freezes the pc and after about 10 seconds it quickly blue screens and then restarts the pc.
Tried from the rear 4 pin input on the nx card and edius crashes.

Just tried Edius, capturing from ohci input and that worked, captured and edited a small sequence.

I tried dv capture utility and this captures dv from the front bay. It also works with the ohci firewire connection.

Movie maker will still capture and edit fine. So I'm pretty sure the pc is set up ok, and it's not as if this is the first pc I've built.

There are no problems detailed in device manager for the cards.

Gigabyte 965 DS3P
Core 2 duo E6420 2.13ghz
Nvidia 8500GT pcie graphics card, using latest drivers
2gb geil ram
2 x wd raptor 36gb os drives - both currently with XP on, though one is disconnected so that I don't get any interference from it.
400gb raid.
creative audigy 2 platinum sound card with front bay.
2 x sony dvd writers
floppy
scsi pci card for my slide scanner, Acer 2720s
Dual vga monitors with a KVM switch, as I have a totally seperate office/internet machine.

Think that is it.

when you start Edius, click new project and then do a screenshot of the screen with all the hardware options, provide a link to the image

are there any errors in event viewer system or app sections?

is the PC soundcard working?

I can't get it to show all the OHCI options, so hope this will do.

your screenshot looks okay but your rendering format is set to uncompressed, is your G drive fast enough for uncompressed? you may want to change this to DV Avi

for some reason, when selecting a DV preset, Edius automatically set uncompressed, I don't understand why it does that but I am sure it has been reported

It should be fast enough, but I'll try dv-avi.

The instruction manual says it checks the pc system and chooses the best quality that the pc can cope with, so to leave it at whatever it defaults to.

I've just checked the irq settings and it is sharing with the graphics card, so I'm about to dismantle the pc again and move the card to another pcie slot to see if I can stop it sharing and try again.

Well moved slots, it's now not sharing......... no good.
Changed to dv-avi, no difference.

I give up, I'm going to stack shelves in the local supermarket, much less hassle.

If I capture using dv capture, can I then use the file in Edius with real time editing?
I know previously in premiere that files not captured using the canopus dv codec wouldn't work in real time.

As I can capture via the nx with dv capture, I thought I could at least get the capture bit out of the way, as I have 11 hous of dv tapes to get started on.

Yes, you can... If you wish DV capture will do scene detection as well

I just did a little test and I can capture using dv capture and the nx front bay.

Then if I open Edius and opt for ohci input device, I can import the file I have just captured as above and edit it.

SO what's wrong with edius and capture using the NX card????????

So, the problem is not the capture from the NX card but using NX as an output device...Try to reinstall the driver of NX...(just the driver, not Edius) and see what happens...
Also try to update your BIOS...

You may also need to adjust the PCI Express latency timing in the motherboard's BIOS setup - refer to your motherboard's manual for steps on how to do this.

If that is unresolved, it makes some sense that you might have trouble when capturing through the board.

You should be able to get RT with most anything you use to capture.

What do I need to change them to?

I can't tell you what hey are for a while as I've started a tape off to capture, so I'm letting it run while I'm on a roll.

I haven't tried anything other than the settings I wanted for dv, so dv50i. I haven't tried anything else. I'll just try them all in a bit.

In most motherboards there is a setting for pci latency timer with numbers like 32, 64, 96, 128 etc...
I remember that there was an issue with DVStorm boards where the pci latency had to be at least at 64
