  • HD Storm cannot be installed on a news Win XP System

    Hi,

I have plugged the new HD Storm card in my PC. It was ok. Afterwards I have reinstalled Win XP to have a clean system. Then it was no possible more to reinstall the card´s driver. After restarting the system, WIN XP says a new hardware was found. It is however not possible to install it. XP says a critical hardware problem is found. I have already tried to plug the card also in other PCIe-Slots. No Change!

I have already installed the newest drivers for the board (Intel 975xbx).

I do not understand it. Before the installation of Win XP it was absolutely ok.

    Help!

    Regards,

    I.

You said you plugged the card into the motherboard - "it is okay". How do you tell that the card was okay? Without any operating system on your PC?

With Os of course.! After checking if the Storm card is ok, I have reinstalled WIN XP. It was unfortunately not possible to reinstall Windows wholly. I have just updated it, because the XP-Installer did not find the harddisks. The reinstalled OS has not found the storm-card. Now I have a pretty big problem. I do not know how to install the Storm without installing XP on a clean way and I do not know how to install XP, because its Installer does not see the disks. Stupid!

At the booting from the install CD I have chosen the taste F6. I have loaded the raid-driver but no success. The disks are not found...

      Regards,

      I.

Did you makesure that all XP updates are loaded?

          Yes, SP1, Sp2, and SP3

No change! The Storm is generally found. The automatic installer starts but this is not successful. After restarting the system the cards is found as not installed. ("New hardware device is found" (Multimediacontroller)

Edius starts anyway but with the OHCI only.

          Regards,

          I.

Have you tried to install the drivers manually?

              @Jerry: yes

In this case comes: "critical problem. During the installation ... etc."

If Edius installs the card is the process closed on a good way. No failure report. The system must be switched off. After restarting reports XP that the card was found. ---> Edius was not able to install it.

In case of installing it manually the process cannot be closed ---> Critical problem.

It can be, that the card is simply damaged. In this case I do however not understand, how the "old" windows was able to use the card ...

Do you know any software to analyse the pc?

              Regards,

              I.

Installing EDIUS should install the drivers properly.

If you are doing a clean install , when the found new hardware first appear, just ignore it. Then after you install Edius and reboot, go through the new hardware install because Edius will have installed the drivers and they should be found.

It just sounds like there may be other issues going on because of the way you described the XP install process.

when you reinstall an operating system, it is a good idea to remove all cards that are not needed for the OS, then when the OS is installed and SP3 is installed, then start adding hardware

there is no need to install Sp1 and SP2

                    SP3 contains SP1 and SP2

Istvan, this is a known problem and Japan have been notified.
It appears that if HD Storm (for any reason) is uninstalled it will not reinstall in many circumstances. We believe this is due to entries in the registry that are not removed when uninstalled. These entries (as yet unidentified) will not allow reinstallation.
We have gone through this process twice under supervision of Japan and the outcome was identical both times.
At this point of time the solution is to reload Windows XP Pro (full fresh install) without the HD Storm card present. When your O/s is fully functional you should again load HD Storm - you will find this to work.
To ensure a clean install of Windows XP it is advisable to format your drive first. Make sure you install HD Storm as per instructions supplied.

I thought Istvan did a re-install of Win XP, right? If that is correct, there should NOT be any registry entries to begin with...

Istvan, can you describe what you did during the re-install of WinXP then?

I initially thought that during the first install (successful) - the program updated something inside the card's ROM ... that prevented subsequent installs.

I noticed each time I upgraded EDIUS, the upgrade does something (write data into my NX ROM) - because it says "Upgrading ROM successful".

I thought Istvan may have done a repair.
If the card was updated you would think a reinstall of HD Storm would not happen (like Istvan) but in our case we have been able to reinstall HDS after reinstalling Windows.
Although on the third reinstall we also changed the motherboard.

This sounds to me like windows was not installed properly. Follow the advice to remove all cards not needed for the installation of windows.

Then do a proper clean install of windows, insert your cd, follow on screen instructions to install windows, you will then get to the point where windows detects an old version, you will want to install to the same place, windows will ask if you want to format, choose the full format (not quick) option and then windows will install a nice clean version. Install motherboard and any other drivers etc and SP3.
Turn off pc, insert storm and follow the instruction proceedure in the manual.
