I know that this probably VERY obvious, but believe me I have searched all our documentation. All I want to do is zoom a still image beyond 100% and ideally keyframe it to hold various sizes along the way.

Work with me on this - a bit of a newbie and infrequent user. I cannot find 3D PIP, I can find 3D dissolves, I can fly tumbling dice across the screen - you get the picture - but I don't get the PIP.

3Dpip is under the keyers category however I do not recommend using that to zoom in a picture...
Since you need keyframes the best way to do that is to buy Imaginate (if you don't have it already)...
Search the forums and you will find more info on that...

3D PIP with keyframes is there and usable to a degree. Keyframing is fine but picture quality is not as clean as Imaginate as Ari implies. I use it and you can get full on with it, but you must watch out for rapid 3D PIP picture degradation. Use the Sharpness filter in Video Filters to help you out a little, but you can't go too far, depending on the scope of the zoom.
