Stand alone catpure programs

are there ay stand alone HDV capture programs like say Scenalyzer? Or dp I NEED to use Edius?

You have to use EDIUS. HDV is really a very mixed format. DV/DVCAM is a single standard without variations.

You might want to email the author of Scenalyzer and ask him to update the program for HDV. If he does implement one, he has to have ALOT of footage from different manufacturers.

If you just want to transfer the *.m2t files to your harddisk (instead of capturing directly to CanopuHQ) you could use HDVSplit:

Taking that a step further we're starting to get a lot of solid state hardware solutions now that mean we can capture M2T directly on the camera and simply transfer to a hard drive.
Capture software will soon be a thing of the past for most formats and particularly with HDV.
