  • Circular Crop?

I was trying to get video in a circle in the top right of my screen.

The only way I've found to do this is to move the video using 3D PiP to where I want it to be, then make the video an AVI file, then put the 2D "circle" transition onto the avi file, then mess with the settings in the circle transition to make the circle not actually do the transition.

I'm wondering if anyone knows an easier way...am I missing something?

Another way to do it, not sure if it's easier or more difficult...
    1. Add Region filter to the clip
    2. Enable Ellipse in the Region filter (so you can make it circular
    3. Set Outside filter to Solid Color
    4. Set Solid Color settings to some UGLY color that doesn't appear in the video (pure green, pure blue, etc)
    5. Add Chroma key to clip
    6. Set Chroma key to "knock out" the background Solid Color

You'll have to adjust the alpha on the Chroma key to keep the edges from showing color.

there is no need for 3D Pip and export to new video

use the layout tool to position and put the circle transition on the keyer track (where you placed 3D PIP) and set transition start and end % the same

you can also change the X and Y position and softness of the circle

        Anton,

        Great trick again......

You seem to read all the comments in all the forums. You are very active in providing simple answers to all the questions asked.... You seem to know all the tricks....

You should write a book or sell training DVDs for Edius clients. I would certainly be your first customer.

One more question.... What about if I wanted to use a square or a heart shaped or another type of crop?

Thanks again for all your precious help.

        From your #1 fan.

Use an Alpha wipe transition, that way you can get whatever shape you want.

sorry, but making such a tutorial disk would be a nightmare because of constant patches and updates and unexpected keyboard shortcut changes, the tutorial would have a short lifespan

now to do your heart shape, add the alpha custom map transition and load a heart shaped bmp mask and position and set start and end keyframe to the same %

also, you can use the prodad vitascene transition and drag it to the full width of the keyer track of the clip

then set start iris and end iris to the same %, say 30%

also, set start sharpness and end sharpness to around 160%

you can also set start and end position the same

you can set start and end border color different so you will have an animated border

you can add another 2 keyframes so that the heart shape appears to start from 0% then hold at 30% for most of the clip and then disappear back to 0%
