  • HDSTORM: question about data processing

As I understand it the onboard CanopusHQ hardware encoder will be used when you input material through HDMI. But what happens when you capture eg. HDV through firewire? Will the material also be converted to HQ using the hardware encoder chip? Or is it done in the old fashioned software way? TIA for the clarification.

When capturing HDV via FireWire, the hardware is not engaged at all - all capture is done at a software level.

HDV, DV and DVCPRO over FireWire are just straight data transfers. Works exactly the same as it does for Generic OHCI in EDIUS, because HDSTORM has no Firewire, so that's how it has to work.

Thanks! Will encoding in hardware and software give the exact same quality or is one better than the other?
