HDSTORM: Taking no preview from HDMI

Hi,

I just installed the HDStorm with EDIUS 5, under a "clean" Win XP OS.

Full of excitement i started EDIUS, i selected the HDSTORM as an output device and select an HD 50i video preset. I placed an clip in the timeline and then.... no preview to the monitor! I then tried SD presents but without any success to get a preview from the HDMI out.

I checked the HDMI connections and everything seems to be fine. I tested the monitor taking HDMI feed from the VGA and everything seems ok.

I found and install the HDStorm updates but the problem still remains.

Any ideas would be much apreciated.

Have you tried a 60i preset?

Do you use the latest driver? You'll find it in the HDSTORM download section.

Look under "computer management" and check if the HQX driver is installed.

Is the monitor a true HDMI connection? It will not work with adapters.

- I tried 60i preset: Nothing
- I am iusing the latest driver of HD Storm (101 I think...)
- The driver seems to be installed correctly
- ...and yes, I am using a true HDMI connection


I also tried low resolution presets but i got the same message: "No input signal"

If the monitor cannot accept YUV signals over HDMI, you won't be able to use that monitor with the HDSTORM.

Remember, there are two basic types of signals that can be sent over HDMI and DVI:
1. Computer video (RGB)
2. Television video (YCbCr, RGB)

Computer monitors will take the former. Some will also take the latter, but not all.
Consumer televisions generally will accept both, but there may be exceptions.

So just because it has the right connector, doesn't guarantee that it'll accept the signal. Just like having a BNC jack doesn't mean the device will accept SDI - it might be a composite jack, or audio, or timecode.

I think that's very important information! How can someone check if a monitor is capable of accepting YUV? Do you have a list? TIA!

Check the specs. If the monitor doesn't mention 1080i or 720p, it likely will not support YCbCr video.

what kind of monitor do you have? I remember that some philips lcd screens had some issues with their hdmi connection eventhough the component input was working fine...
did you try another monitor?

Would it be safe to say that if you use a handycam with HDMI out to test and the LCD monitor displays the video, any HDSpark or HDstorm card will work on that LCD too ?

Reason I'm asking is that I have 2 HDMI 16x10 LCD computer monitors and was thinking to get a HDspark + Edius 5 (upgrade package) for previewing on the 2nd monitor.
I do understand that this monitor is not 1920i res, but when playing from my HC9 via HDMI i do get a running video with of course a tiny letterbox as the monitor is 1650x1080i and the footage is 1440x1080i, but would the HDspark give me 1440 or will it upres to 1920i ? does it work ?

My HD Storm upres's to 1920 x 1080 (from 1440 x 1080) 0n my Dell 2409. Picture looks great.

I used the HDSTORM's HDMI Output with a HDMI to DVI cable connected to a broadcast JVC Monitor and everything works fine! Excellent preview monitoring!

But... why????

Is there any possibility the problem cused by the HDMI 1.x version or something like HDCP support via HDMI?
