  • HQ Double Vision

Howdy folks... it' been a while since I've edited and I've run into a problem.

Edius NX for HDV + Expansion, Edius 4.61.

I am having a weird problem that I don't recall seeing before... (or if I did, I can't remember the fix).

I have an animation (rendered to frames... not fields) that I created that has arrows moving across the image. The other parts of the image are basically static. Edius 1280x720 project is displaying the HQ file such that the arrows are all doubled with double-vision.

If I inspect the frames that were rendered by the 3D program, they are perfect and crisp. If I inspect the rendered frames that then came out of the compositing program, they are perfect. If I inspect the resulting HQ file in a media player, the arrows appear perfect. But when the HQ file is in Edius, the arrows are doubled for some reason.

I checked my settings and the video overlay is set to display frames. Tried it on fields for grins but it made no difference.

Any idea why I've got double-vision on these arrows?

    Thanks!
    Sincerely,

    Mike Truly

      Rusty,

      Thanks for the ideas.

Yes it's set to progressive. It says in the project settings:

      1280x720 29.97p over 59.94

In the list I don't see any other 1280x720 setting available.

      Thanks!

Here's a cropped section showing the double arrows vs what I see when the HQ is played in a media player.

        Thanks!

How does it look with OCHI settings?
That whole NX/progressive over interlaced thing has me baffled.

            Rusty,

            Something is really wacked.

The HQ files look fine when played outside of Edius. Inside Edius, the video out to my HD production monitor shows the double vision arrows. If I render out a section to another HQ file... I get the double arrows in that rendered file.

This is with the NX settings and with the OHCI settings... same result. Obviously, with the OHCI settings, I get no output to my production monitor (hooked up component from the expansion card).

I'm baffled. I've edited many videos consisting of my animations but can't recall seeing this double motion problem.

            Sigh.

            Thanks again.
            Sincerely,

            Mike Truly

is this when playback is paused?

if you switch pause field to upper or lower instead of frame, does the problem go away?

if yes, then the footage is interlaced, I am not sure why

right click the clip, properties, do you see progressive in dropdown?

                Anton,

                Thanks for the ideas.

I just found the answer. The HQ clips were rendered/assembled as 1280x720p 30fps. When I re-rendered them as 29.97fps, they work perfect in Edius now.

Whew!! Now I can sleep tonight.

                Thanks again to all.
                Sincerely,
