  • Edius 5

I wish there could be another Forum titled Edius 5. I don't have Edius 5 and I probably won't purchase it. I have purchased every software editing program since Hiro started with Rex. And I've been dismayed a number of time about how much discussion has taken place on this and earlier Forums related to cutting edge enthusiasts. A lot of it deals with software and hardware "must haves" and I just cringe when I read the posts. So I try not to read them anymore. But it would be nice to visit a Forum that has no posts about the NX card, Edius 5 etc. Any chance?

I see your point on this Phil. While there are differences in the versions, the core working of Edius is pretty much the same in all recent versions. This might lead to a duplication of posts if the forums were split. I could support either direction on this question.

It is very true what 3chip mentioned here, the old forum was almost solely about editing related problems / suggestions and general ideas.
I have to also mention that I start to miss the old forum and posters like Tekvideo with great tips and examples, those were really help full for beginners as well as veterans ..............

There's absolutely no person saying these tips and examples are not welcomed here. Further, TekVideo would also be welcomed if it were not for past indescretions of the monetary variety.

I think a new Forum for Edius 5 would be just great.
So far for me 5 has had some magic benefits, stay with 4 if you are editing in SD you will probably not find much difference but for HD the benefits I have found are well worth the change.
The greatest is the change to "Layout"! I used to have to go to Boris if I wanted to "PAN" or "Zoom" a still taken with a "still" camera or I ended up with shimmering edges, "Layout" now achieves this so quickly inside Edius and the edges are "CLEAN". Great stuff GV!
If I read carefully 3D pip may get the flick soon with an update for Layout?
The other is the improvement in "ALPHA" production and use in the GPU transitions, for a long time I have wanted to be able to use a "peel" or "Page turn" transition on titles, well it can now be done!
Using either "Chrominance or Luminance" keyers the "Mat" can be rendered and placed in the bin with the original clip and a transparent alpha clip can be made and placed on a "V" track and there are the appropriate options available with the GPU transitions to have whatever you like on the back of the Xfade, just magic.
There is no difference with a still or Video clip with transparent alpha it all works!
That is just what I have found so far to increase my productivity and creativity, can't wait for the updates

Very true, but you have to admit that, especially when you are new here (on this forum) and new to video editing, this place is quite intimidating with the majority of posting done by power users with very impressive hardware spec's mainly discussing so called "high end" issues and work arounds.

If you have noticed that compared to the "old" forum, there are very few "niewbie" questions, just for the simple reason that one would become shy after reading a few hours here, as even I myself are reading much more than I post.

I do know that there are still lots of users, including the "power" users who are always more than willing to help out, even the beginners, with very basic questions, and this is very good, that's what this forum is for, but still, it's very different here, you have to admit that.

No doubt it's different. But i can't form that kind of assumption without facts. The old forum had plenty of problems too remember, there were nerves and tension, personal attacks galore.....

I'm happy enough.... but it's not really up to us anymore.

Also, if you read the description of the forums, the Neo forum (though badly titled) is the place for newby Edius questions if someone doesn't feel comfortable here.

With the strength of the dollar 3 chip you must invest in the Edius turorial discs from DVC Hove. Very quickly you will be up to standard to enjoy the nuggets of the Edius forum.Notwithstanding the excellent Mr Downey these are of the very best.

What's a source for the DVC Hove DVDs?

                          Barry,
Be careful 'congratulating' Japan on the great alpha job. Keep in mind that they also read this forum. Japan also takes a compliment of a function within Edius as 'why do we need to improve this when the users are perfectly happy.'

My understanding of E5 and the GPU alpha is that the alpha only works while using the GPUFX of Edius, not 3rd party effect programs. Using the Matte as you described does work. This workaround has been around for a while and it does work. I'm glad that you are happy with that method.

                          I am not.

Everyone is talking about real time and E5 RT.
I know you mentioned that you didn't have AE or Premiere or other NLE software due to the expense of ownership. If you get a chance, try another NLE with full alpha support and see how easy it is to add that page peel to a title or graphic and retain full transparency. Time is saved as well as resources of the computer.
I just want Japan to know that not everyone is happy with the alpha support within Edius, so that they will work to get full alpha in V6. That's all, nothing more, nothing less!

Edius 4.6 is still my favorite editor.....so please, don't lable me negative!
