  • HD Storm with overscan?

I´ve installed my new HD Storm and the quality of the preview makes me happy!

But: choosing on my Monitor LG Flatron L246WH the pixel native setting 1:1 there are black bars on the right and left side of the screen. And the bars on the bootom an the top of the screen are wider than usually playing 16:9 clips on a 16:10 screen.

If I choose the setting auto the scaler streches the preview horizontally and vertically and no bars ar left on the right and left side.

In both cases it seems that there is an overscan coming from the HDMI out of the HD Storm. I miss about 6% of the picture content on all 4 edges in comparence to the preview picture in Edius itselve!

Is there anybody else making the same experience?

Have you put overscan to 0 in your project?

      Yes, I did!

If the overscan settings are not 0 one should see it in the small edius preview window as well, isn´t it?

This will happen. Remember that the aspect ratio of video is 16:9 while computer monitors have a 16:10 ratio. On top of that if you use 1:1 pixel mapping on your monitor, you will see black bars the left and right side and also a bit of black on top and bottom.

Your monitor has a resolution of 1900x1600. Full HD has 1920x1080 pixels so your monitor actually has more horizontal resolution than the video you're feeding.

This is one of the reasons that I chose a 40" Sony Bravia instead of a PC monitor. HDTV's are 16:9 and support exact video specs of 1920x1080.

Now if you do 2k work (which EDIUS doesn't support, of course) a 30" Apple Cinema Display would be much better than an HDTV.

          Ah I missed that one:)

Indeed you need a 1920x1080 display.

The monitor has a resolution of 1920x1200. Therefor no bars should be visable on the left an right side. Only on top and bottom! And again: there are about 5-6% area missing on every of the four edges!

              What is your project setting?
I think this might be you monitor scaling. (maybe you selected the worng setting?)

I have no troubles displaying true 16:9 footage on my HDTV 1920x1080p display.

                Project Settings:

                HD Storm
                HDV
                1440x1080
                50i
                0% overscan

The HD Storm is connected via HDMI with the LG Flatron L246WH.

Whoops my mistake, I was thinking of a 30" LCD resolution. But no you should see a bit of black bars on all sides. 1200-1080 = 120 extra pixels. 1920-1900 = 20 extra pixels that the monitor does not have.

Problem is that you're editing HDV...1440 is not close to 1900 :)

I think you have to live with that. If you do 720p you will not like it much either because the image would be in the middle and lots of black on all sides.

Even in a 1440x1080 project, the output is still 1920x1080. EDIUS is just processing 1440x1080.

I am using this panel http://benq.co.uk/products/LCD/?prod...specifications and with 1:1 PIXEL FOR PIXEL with a full rez of 1920 x 1200 the output the output from my NXe has black bars top and bottom AS to be expected of 60 pixels each.

This is a full HD panel and I can tell you after a bit of searching it came out the best for the money for preview of my work!

Has EVERY connector you would need SD looks SOOOOO small in the middle on 1:1

                      LOL

Yes, top and bottom, but not left and right!

And I don´t get the full content on the screen. There is a frame of some % all around missing!!!

Monitor resolution 1920x1200 - HD 1920x1080 So there should be no bars left and right, just on top and bottom!!!

Yes, HDV is 1440x1080, but the output of Edius/HD Storm is/should be 1920x1080!

And there is a frame of some % missing all around compared to the preview window in Edius!

Question to all HD Storm users: Can you confirm that the preview picture is not croped via HDMI?

In my case it is. I run WinXP Pro 32 bit.

No problem on my cheap LG 1920 x 1200 LCD. I can get both 16:10 and 16:9 with upper and lower cropping. There is some instability in the HDStorm driver though that gives an intermittent interlacing effect which can be corrected in "Settings/Hardware Settings/HQX-E1/Video Overlay
