This is normal...
In order to work with the GPU fx your graphics card has to support the PixelShader Model 3.0

Strange things depending on graphics card
Here you see 2 screenshots of Edius 5.
One with a ATI Radeon X550 with 256 MB ram
Second with Asus EN8800GT with 1 GIG of ram
Edius work with both, but only with the Asus you see also th GFU-effects.
