Before I upgrade to 5, will there be any problems Opening up and editing projects created in Edius 4.51c using Edius 5?

Probably, finish your projects before upgrading.

I will need to be able to open Edius 4 archived projects to re-edit. I guess I need to wait untill an updated version of Edius 5 is released.

I don't have any problem to open and continue to work on my older projects. E5 helps me to get it done faster with new features on the audio adjustment, noise elimination ....

Just remember, after you save a project in 5, you can't open it in 4.xx
