    Hi John,

Thanks for that advise. Very useful. Does the 9800GT take up more than one slot. My MB is a bit tight on space!

    Thanks

    I used Canopus HQ 1440/1080....

I remember running around uninstalling SP2 when it came out off computers as it was not compatible with some systems and would not boot. Never trust a SP patch...he he...

yep, there's sure something odd going on, I thought maybe SP 3 was needed, but it installs and then won't boot, so thats strange too, unless it's a known issue as well.

    Hey Martin.
That should playback realtime easy on your system.
Here is what I can achieve with 4.60 and and I have a slower CPU smaller graphics cards and use just single sata drives.
    http://www.hdvunderwater.com/edius/test/test.htm

Take out one of your graphics cards and try.
Then put that one back in and take out the other one.

Paul did you use the trial version of 5 or the retail one.

    G'day Martin,
Firstly, as you say, a new graphics card would help, particularly with E5 and GPU. The 7900GS (Go Slow) card is ageing a bit. The GT model had twice the through put but not enough pipes to handle Edius effects efficiently.
Having said that, Edius really flies in SD or with HQ AVI native files but when confronted with MOV's or Mpeg's or something odd slows to a crawl. The 3D PIP will slow down even a real good graphic card - don't expect too much in this area.
I've just installed a nVidia 9800GT (1Gb RAM) together with the HDStorm card and things seem to be motoring well in this department - but still early days yet.

I'm gonna talk to the guys at DVC who built this Supermicro system and try to ascertain its real expectations - maybe we are all in need of dual quad core machines these days - GV state 3ghz or faster, multiple cores recommended - 2gb ram or more recommended - 256 mb graphics card for HD editing and raid 0 7200 ata100 or faster.

My system outstrips this spec easily, but V5 plays like a sack of thick jelly, however it performs well on my Vaio laptop...

just don't get it right now...

    Another "poor RT" thread

Sorry, but since these questions are kind of specific, I thought I'd raise a new thread. This is using Edius 4.6. For the most part, RT is ok on my system. However, I noticed with a recent project that using PiP just about cripples my system. Also with Edius 5 being installed soon, I wonder if there is a bottleneck on the system. Also, I can't play Vitascene effects in Realtime.

    Clip is: Canopus HQ 1440/1080

I notice that with a single Pip, Slow motion and a Smooth blur, the system cannot play realtime. Two PiP's wont play realtime either.

    My system is:

    Mainboard: Asus P5W DH Deluxe,I975X,Socket-775,ATX, SATAIIx7, Dual-GbLAN, DDR2, 2xPCI-Ex16
CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 2.67GHz Socket LGA775 (Quad code)
    Memory: 2GB Corsair TWIN2X 8500C5 DDR2
    Graphics: XFX GeForce 7900GS 525M 256MB GDDR3, XT-X, PCI-Express, 525/1550Mhz
    System Drive: Samsung SpinPoint T166 320GB SATA2 16MB 7200RPM
Video Drives: Couple of 7200's with ample speed.

Seems to me that the obvious weakness is the graphics card. But I wonder if upgrading this will make any different to things like PiP performance. Although, I realise I will need something better for Edius 5 new effects.
    Many thanks
    Martin
