  • ATI or NVIDIA

Just ordered a HDSTORM with Edius 5.
I'm building a new system. Now I have the choice between two graphics cards :
ASUS ATi Radeon HD 4850 PCIe 1GB HDMI Dual DVI or
MSI nVidia GeForce NX8800GT-T2D1GE-OC PCIe 1GB HDTV Dual DVI

What's the best choice and why ?

    thanks

If you are only using Edius it does not matter.
BUT with the 8800, if you use programs like Smartsound and try to use it to play back a HD HQ file when assessing music, the nvidia card will balk at it as Smartsound uses Direct Draw not Direct 3D
In fact if you try to use Direct Draw in Edius the same problem will occur, sideways jittery video playback.
I will admit it was around 6 months ago I changed to the ATI so drivers and other things may have changed since.
The nvidia drivers also conflicted with Quicktime and caused problems with Smartsound blacking out controls on the screen and caused playback and preview problems in Digital Juice. This could be semi fixed by setting the Video acceleration in Quicktime to GPU only
Things may have changed 1 month can be a long time with computers
Hope this helps, meant as a guide only from previous experience.
    Regards Barry
