EDIUS 5 what Graphics cards are people using with good realtime GPUFX compatibility?

OK my main system has a quadro FX1500 that I assume will not accelerate the GPU driven FX package with EDIUS 5......So what to do..........

I have a second system with an ATI HD 3850 500 meg 256 bit card that according to specs should work! BUT I have a project on this in 4.61 that will be a few weeks away from final output.....so I cant upset it now for testing,

So I would like people who have made the switch to E5 and who have FULL functionality with the GPU FX in HDV 1440 X 1080I to post the details of their Graphics card please, If possible.

The ATI FireGL V7600 with 512 mb on my system works just great all that I have tried so far have been in RT.
But it is far too expensive, there has to be cheaper ones that work

Try a NVidia 280GT great card that also supports the new CUDA technoligie,
The price has been dropped on the 280 and the 260s too, comes with 1GB of ram on the 280 and about 900mg on the 260s.

I think you now see why I mentioned to you in an earlier post, when you were building the system originally, to go with a card with 512mb of ram on board as opposed to the Quadro card.
I have the same Quadro card....it is in the closet. All my comparisons were done with the full retail version of Vitascene. The Quadro works fine at 1440x1080 but does not work on all effects within Vitascene at 1920x1080. I have to take a guess that the Edius GPUFX will work in much the same way. I currently use an Nvidia 8800GTS 512 and the ATI 2600xt. Both work great in Vitascene at 1920x1080, which means, at 1440x1080 you would have lots of overhead.
RAM is the key. Even the lowly ATI 2600XT will do GPU driven effects for $70-75. It has 512. It all depends on how much you wish to spend. The new Nvidia cards (260,280) are priced in the same range as the Quadro you currently own.

I upgraded to the PNY Verto GeForce 9600GT 512MB just before installing Edius 5. I developed a video this weekend with the new card and E5 without any problems. I took time to try a few of the new transitions and can playback without any studder.

Yes. If my 2600xt 512 will do it, this thing certainly will.

For the new PC I probably will buy, they suggest the XFX Geforce 9400GT 512MB DDR2. Is this one ok for these things? Thanks

Nvidia 8800gt works fine

The nvidia 8800gt 512mb card in my 8 core intel system works great, renders the gpu fx in realtime with both HDV and full 1080i clips as I'm previewing it. Good news as I was reading in the premiere cs4 system requirements that gpu acceraltion was only available with the quadro series. I also suspect that the nvidia 8600gt 512mb card in my home editor with an intel quad will handle the the task just fine as well, just maybe a bit slower. both running XP pro. will confirm after completing a full project on the 8 core box.

Not true about CS4, and just Quadro, NVidia have a new technologie out called CUDA, what you will do is install these drivers on cards that support it,
Follow this link to the cards that support it, http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_learn_products.html Then what you can use is a plugin called RapidHD (Not sure what it will cost you's) Follow this link to check it out, http://www.elementaltechnologies.com/how_it_works.php I am currently testing this stuff now with CS4 and it is very very quick, should be out by the end of the year.

Interesting. Would you be able to post a link where you have seen this mentioned please. It may sway my purchase of a GPU, especially if After Effects is the same.

I never found a reference to Ppro's gpu requirements except for open gl 2.0 there is a link for AFX CS4 video cards and they basically list the same cards as for Ppro CS3
