  • Questions about new HD Storm Plus and V5

    Today I went to the local reseller for an update of the offer of last month, now V5 has come. Previously the Edius NX Express card was on it and because I still use DV in standard definition (with an Firewire connection), I wanted to hold this one because of the Firewire input. But the people of the store told there is no difference between using the FW connector of the NX card and any other FW connector on the machine, eg those on a separate FW card. The FW connector on the NX would be directly connected through to those other ones. Is this information correct? Is there really no difference in using the NX Express for FW input beside others on the system?

    Second, I have a question on the ProDAD plugins, now part of Edius 5. Do these plugins have full (expert) functionality like as you buy it with ProDAD directly or do they have restrictions in use (besides the fact they could only be used in Edius)? Cause of troubles with my laptop I couldn't install the demo yet. Maybe some of those who tried it already could give an answer on this?

    That is correct, the NX fire wire connector is NOT a IEEE1394 port, however it does allow you to Capture DV AVI with it, same as a Standard IEEE1394 port.

    For HDV however you can't use the NX fire wire port as it is not IEEE1394 compliant, to capture HDV you'll need a seperate fire wire card.

    Hope this confusion helps a bit.

    As I don't have Edius 5 yet (still waiting) I will let someone else chime in ..............

      I have an NX card and I capture HDV using the NX card.

        You mean the 6pin port on the component board? That's an OHCI port. The 4pin port on the NX is only for DV.

          I'm capturing HDV right now. The Z1U has its HDV light on and I'm capturing to HDV 1440 x 1080. I'm using a 4-pin to 4-pin cable.

            The two models are slighly different but it does capture HDV. Dave has the Express and Bandman has the NX with HD Expansion.

              Maybe with the expansion board, not the NX card though.

                  As I understand it, they are full version plug-ins, but they can only be used within EDIUS v5. (ie. not other NLEs)

                      Top image should be PCI (no e) Component card. :)
                      PCIe = PCI Express
                      PCI = PCI Conventional

                          Yup. The upper card is the PCI (PCI Conventional) HD Expansion board, while the middle card is the PCIe (PCI Express) HD Expansion board.

                            If you connect internally the two cards then both ports (4pin and 6 pin) can be used for HDV capture
