does edius broadcast work with the canon 5d markII?

full HD video at 1920x1080 over mini-HDMI or CF card
-- 30 frames per second (but no mention of 24p)
-- max. recording file size of 4GB per clip, or:
-- max. recording time of 29 min. 59 sec.
-- clips recorded in .MOV format using MPEG-4

after looking at this sample, i would like to try the cam.

Yes that was a nice clip indeed...however they were very careful how they filmed and cut it up....the camera was nearly always still and they let the action move.
Anytime is was moving the shots were kind of camouflaged.

The raw clip would not open in EDIUS so I converted it to a 1440/1080 m2t file and them dropped it into EDIUS for frame by frame look.

Watch for rolling shutter effect / skew... I could pick it out on a couple shots.
Its certainly shoots video better than the new Nikon though and would be good for certain jobs.

I believe it would work with the AVC Intra plugin.
My main computer with the AVC Intra is not avail with the internet. or I would give it a try. I am interested in upgrading my D5

AVC-Intra is only for .mxf clips from Panasonic cameras.

Looking at it now that was not a raw clip.

It was a QuickTime H.264 clip so it should open fine in EDIUS. Not sure what the Canon shoots in raw, I'm guessing QuickTime so it should open. However it's going to be a 1920x1080 clip so you will need a good system for it to handle these clips.

By the way from my perspective this camera is "ok" for cetain things, but not really good for run and gun. Notice how in the heli shot they used a stabilizer, imagine it hand held :)

Even with a tripod you could see a bit of a "shake". If people are going all out on the production value, I am sure they'll be better off renting a good ENG HD camera, or even the RED.

Other than that, the resolution is superb and so is the color. I like Canon & Nikon DSLR's very much.

I too have been researching this new EOS 5D MK2. Brilliant. I am 95% ready to purchase. Waiting for a hands on demonstration. Looking for more reviews and examples regularly before I lash out before christmas. I dont think I can wait any longer for the SDI version ??? EOS 1D MK4 or EOS 3D ??? I've been wanting a HDV SLR camera which supports EOS lenses for so long now... Time to ditch my EOS 3 camera and make the transition from film to digital at last... HDV video cameras dont cut the mustard for stills like film does... I wish Canopus (yes,... GV Thomson) would offer SDI soon for edius 5.x...

The Canon 5D still suffers from the "rolling shutter" effect, ie: when you pan the camera vertical objects "bend". HD Video mode in DSLR's will just be a gimmick for me until this limitation is overcome.

Not only those camera's. Sony ex series are known for this jellow effect. :)
You have to take your time to clean stuff up in Edius.
Some like it and some don't.

EX1 also has the rolling shutter problem.

You might want to take a look at the latest Panasonic offerings. The P2 ones still use CCD. The EX1 does have higher resolution than the hand held Panasonic cameras, though.

There is still that problem when flashes hit the object, the screen kind of splits in half with CMOS sensors. Might be a nightmare for some event videographers.

I believe the main use for cameras such as these are for 'effect' shots. Certain lenses will give certain looks to a production. If you are renting cameras to do these shots-which are only on screen for mere seconds, this camera 'appears' to be able to accomplish this task.. Also, Canon has a large selection of lenses from which to choose.
When this camera drops in price, which it will, it will be more afforable to own
than to rent....that is if you are using either one regularly.

The 5D is a full frame still camera, the video side of things is just a gimic, why would you use a still full frame still camera for video?
