Edius NX for HDV ?

Hi..

Hope someone can clear this up for me. I have Edius FLX-i workstation & Edius NX for HDV. I've not used the edius HDV editing at all until now. I shoot on Sony HVR-Z1U. I have a shoot/edit job where the project will be used on a product website. I'm thinking about shooting and editing in HDV.

I got an HDV clip into Edius. But it would not show up on my non-HD outside monitor until I changed the output setting to DV AVI exporter. (it was on canopus HQ AVI exporter in project settings when I imported the clip)

Am I correct that an HDV file is just a HD mpeg 2 file.....and that the only way to keep this HDV file an HDV file is to export it as an mpeg-2 file or MPEG TS writer back to tape?

Is there any reason to even shoot in HDV when it's going to wind up compressed on a website? (What type of file does a webmaster want? Could a webmaster even play the file or tape to do what he does to get it onto the website?) I've even heard if video is going to be compressed down and used on the web, shooting in HDV may look worse than just shooting it in DV format?

Any insight appreciated.

HDV? Yes, always! Shoot/edit/archive in HDV! Someone may want their project on Blu-Ray someday and you'll be ready.

Are the internal cables installed properly?
Is your monitor hooked up to the BNC connectors in back? That's what the HDV card is all about.

You're correct about the mpeg2 of HDV... you must create .m2t files to output to tape with the TS Writer.

With quality compression your footage should look superior to DV... do some tests, you'll see. It's up to video guys to educate knucklehead webmasters about video! (check the SD quality on vimeo.com or exposureroom.com)

So the only way to see the HDV video on my external monitor is to connect the component BNC of my external monitor to the BNC connectors on the computer's HDV module?
