We got a little off-track on the MediaCoder bit... and I'm guilty on that account too.
Going EDIUS to MediaCoder, that's fine.

Hey.....Brandon.... I thought this was a free open forum.....maybe there should be a general topic thread as well here so we can chat about other software and stuff.
How to make FLASH videos file's from EDIUS...that's what we were chatting about.

Okay guys, we're falling off-topic here... If it's not EDIUS-related, please take it to PM.

Mediacoder - how to encode to FLV?
Hello wags,
I downloaded Mediacoder with the intention to generate an FLV file. Unfortunatelly - all I can get is "Incorrect parameter for FFMPEG" when I try to encode to 'Flash Video'. What settings do you use? What format do you choose and what container in particular? I have read somewhere on the Internet, that MediaCoder can not directly encode to FLV and you have to use some other program to inject some additional data into the resulting file. I am all confused. Thank you for your help,
zb21

16.9 no problems.
I encoded out a 1440/1080 HDV m2t and 1440/10820 Canopus HQ file from a HDV timeline, then into the encoder. Canopus HQ input seems to give better results.
I have only been using it to make H.264 files to play in FLASH.
I will try it out making flv and DVD files.
My normal mode is to output High Def footage with 4:3 so my encoder can use it (doesn't convery anything in 16:9) and as a SD AVI.
A 6 min AVI into an FLV usually is around 35 mbs. Is converting a HDV into FLV going to make it higher than that? I know it may be an obvious question. The higher quality would be worth it though.

Since FLASH now supports H.264 clips, I have been messing around with it.
It seems to give one abit better quality than vp6.
Here is a small clip of a train.
1440/1080 Canpous HQ file and then into Mediacoder (FREE Encoder) then out as a 480/270 CBR 700kbps H.264 file. I seem to be getting better results with this encoder than with QT Pro.
And here is is......can you guess where that train is?

Yes it's the Kuranda train over Stoney Creek. I went up on the back of a Toyota 4x4 track car which was pretty cool.
I like Cairns although the developers are destroying it by buying up any spare land and Cane farms to build as many units as they possibly can. I lived there as well in the early 90's for 3.5 years working for a few dive operators.
There is another really great FREE encoder that can do flv plus alot more called [email protected] ....Google it....it's not bad and I just used it to batch encode a 164 wav - mp3 sound files for a multimedia project.
I have not tried it with EDIUS 5 yet but On2 (vp6 guys) have a product called Flix Exporter that plugs into EDIUS, it has abit more control to make flv than FLASH Exporter.
I guess all this is one reason why I like PC's, so many options.

(Cairns is my home town. I've lost count how many times I have been on that train)
Excellent to see your H.264 workflow in action. :)

I am using Macromedia Flash 8 Converter to make the flv's for the internet at 700kbps quality...but I am seeing better looking video's on the net quality wise. Didnt know if Edius had something built in that did this. Or if not, maybe someone can point me in the right direction so I can read up on this.
Thanks.
Update: Should I be exporting out of Edius as AVI? Or as Internet Video as in a Quicktime file? I also shoot in HD, so don't know if HQ AVI will work or even make it better.
