There is a new plug-in with the software (full version). But I believe the functionality is no different. The app+hardware relationship needs to be exclusive - it's just how it all works. -
Interestingly it worked fine with all previous versions of AE, it's just CS3, but as you say, the two are not happy sharing the output card.

AE CS3 and Eduis
I have After Effects CS3 and Edius 4.61 on my computer. Both run happily and I can have both open and working at the same time.Comment
