Yes, that'll do it. Once you're happy, switch the project to OHCI and output to FireWire.

Such a chip is not featured on the HDSTORM board, nor any of the new ones. Mostly because the benefit is largely irrelevant in modern computing - the CPUs are just so much more powerful than they were several years ago.
Thanks. So I guess the HDSTORM plus is best for me as I'll get HDMI preview for HD and I can always preview a DV timeline (in sync) via the S-VIDEO output.

You say 'unlike NX/SP'. So does NX/SP accelerate the editing process? If so, how?

The reason I ask is because I've got to change my 2 Storm2 cards and 1 RexRT to 3 new cards for moving to HD. Got to decide between the NX or HDSTORM.

The HQ chip is engaged when capturing to HQ, or exporting to HQ - I'm not sure yet if that 'exporting' includes using the right-click 'Convert' option in the bin window. I haven't got my own board to play around with yet. :)

The RT editing performance is no different to software-only - the board won't accelerate the actual HD editing experience (nor SD, unlike NX/SP). But as long as you're working within an HDSTORM project preset, there should be no 'lag' to the external display.

this is from the product webpage

HDSTORM empowers you with constantly synched, full-resolution preview of effects and content directly from the EDIUS timeline

that means that there is no delay...

If I use HDMI to monitor my HD/DV time line to an HDMI monitor is there a way to prview my audio to a different monitor through the sound device?
Yes the board has 1 x stereo (3.5mm, unbalanced) audio output... so, you can connect that output to the line in of your soundcard...

    More Questions

In the listed HD Storm specs DV NTSc and PAL formats are supported.
But I think it is for RT preview to a monitor. For out put to DV tape
    you should use OHCI device.

    1) yes you can use any other firewire port to capture DV, HDV etc...
    2) No, I think that HDStorm is just an I/O board... for faster conversion you just need a faster computer

    HDSTORM questions

First of all, thanks for a GREAT upgrade!! Well done GV. A couple of my feature requests were also included (essence marker support and undo/redo actions behaviour), which shows GV is listening.

    A couple of questions:

    1) The HDSTORM does not do DV I/O. Is this correct? (if not, then does that mean I use the Mboard OHCI for DV?)
    2) Does the Canopus HQ chip on the HDSTORM speed up the conversion process for XDCAM HD files (when transferring as files from the disc)?

    Thanks
Working...
