HDStorm has nothing to do with the capture process via firewire...
scene detection and camera control is working normally...
the only limitation is that you can not have preview on an external monitor during the capture process

You can call up OHCI from within the software for your capture needs. Or, if you need realtime FireWire output, you start/switch to an OHCI project setting. Otherwise, capture with FireWire, edit with HDMI output.
Does that mean timecode based scene detection and camera control will not work with the HDStorm when used for importing?

Perhaps I'm missing it, but is there firewire control on the HD StormPlus option?
Or are we to rely on OHCI control for firewire decks and input? And if so, is there a control option from Edius5 for choosing OHCI?

You could put an HDSTORM beside a DVStorm, but it would be a nuisance. DVStorm only works up to 4.6. HDSTORM needs v5 as a minimum.

That would mean a dual-boot or some other multi-platform virtualisation. Since you own a DVStorm, you're entitled to a $300 discount on HDSTORM or HDSTORM Plus.

    From the horses mouth:

According to our product planning roadmap, the following hardware platforms will be supported by the next major release of EDIUS in Windows XP 32-bit editions, Windows Vista 32-bit editions and Windows Vista 64-bit editions:
    • IEEE 1394 (Generic OHCI)
    • ACEDVio
    • EDIUS NX Series
    • EDIUS SP Series
    • EDIUS SD/HDLE/HD Series (RX-E1)

Windows Vista compatible 32-bit and 64-bit hardware drivers for the EDIUS NX series, EDIUS SP series and EDIUS SD/HDLE/HD series will be available with this next EDIUS release. OHCI and ACEDVio will continue to use the native OS drivers. At this time, we are still determining if it will be feasible to provide support for Windows XP 64-bit editions on the above hardware products.

The following hardware platforms will not be supported in Windows Vista, and will remain supported up to EDIUS v4.x, under Windows XP 32-bit editions only:
    • DVRaptor RT2 Series
    • DVStorm Series
    • DVRex RT Series*
    • DVStorm XA Series (China only)
    • EDIUS DVX Series (Europe only)

*DVRex RT Series is unofficially supported in EDIUS v4.00 to v4.24 – it is not supported at all in EDIUS v4.5 and later.

We hope this clarifies our position with regards to EDIUS compatibility with the Windows Vista operating system. We welcome further discussion on anything that is unclear concerning our Windows Vista support roadmap for EDIUS, right here on the forums.
