Instead of thinking you got an unfair deal, think in terms that the others got a good deal. Besides if you paid for the Broadcast version before, then you had access to the advantages of that and the others did not.

It is the same price while the special is running (to end of year). After that there are two seperate prices. Maybe you have a point, subjective of course.

Upgrade from Edius Pro or Broadcast the same price?
Those who bought 4.6 Broadcast paid out several hundred bucks for it. V5 now includes all the "broadcast" codecs. Upgrading Pro and Broadcast to V5 is the same price?? That's not fair for those who purchased Broadcast in the past.

If you are referring to the CUDA stuff for H.264, quality is awesome.

With FireCoder BLU, Instead of making its own board, I wish GV would have done something using CUDA Technology so anyone could just use an nvidia (series 8 or greater) GPU to handle the encoding. Woudl make it much more accessible!
GPU encoding to Hi-Def H.264 is blazing fast!

OK I think I understand what you meant. I just don't think of the non-OHCI-compliant ports as being "Firewire". Just think of them as Canopus DV/HDV ports. Thanks, it's always good to get my head straightened out.

We'd have to install an OHCI chip...which is rather moot because, well, most PCs have one now.

Thanks for all your very quick and complete responses to my (and others' questions.) Exciting days for edius fans.

Add to that the reduced usage of FireWire as a video transport medium as we move ahead, the cost of the circuitry on top of the board, and the fact that the 4-pin FireWire port would likely not be compatible with HDV anyway, it didn't make too much sense leaving HDSTORM stuck with a FireWire port.

The EDIUS v5+HDSPARK package is a separate SKU sold later this year - I have no info regarding any upgrades (but Brandon and I certainly did ask the question).
You'll definitely be able to buy it before the current $249 deal runs out on the 31st of December, so if you want to wait a bit and see if there is an upgrade price...
The HDMI output will be synced with the timeline - that's the whole point of the product. (like all our purpose-built EDIUS boards)
It should co-exist with ACEDVio just fine - this is due in part to ACEDVio's OHCI lineage.

Kenneally:
You list HDSpark to provide HDMI output. Is this a live in-time-with-timeline output to drive a video monitor while editing?
Also, is there a means of ordering it with our v5 upgrades now, or must we wait for another announcement?
Also, will it coexist peacefully with an ACEDVio card?
This is the most exciting Canopus GV/Canopus announcement I can recall. A great big thank you to the Product Development/Announcement teams.
