Answers:

- Everyone upgrading gets the 3rd party bundle - so yes, $1000 of software for $249 (and a new version of EDIUS to boot)

- HDSTORM can run along side NX/SP, if you have the slots and PCIe bandwidth to spare. You cannot engage both hardware devices simultaneously, though. (ie. capture/output from two different boards)

- Pricing for FIRECODER BLU still to be finalised (there's one in the press release draft, but I don't know if that is the final price). I don't know a lot about this (standalone) board yet, suffice to say that it involves MPEG-2 and H.264.

Leveraging Cell microprocessor architecture, the new FIRECODER Blu PCIe card transcodes AVCHD files to/from MPEG-2 at 4-5 times faster than real-time and converts AVI files to MPEG-2 or AVCHD at faster than real-time. Blu-ray/DVD writer/transcoding software is included, which means that FIRECODER Blu can be used with any Windows-based NLE or authoring software.

- TitleMotion Pro is included in v5. In theory, there shouldn't be any more mucking around with having to insert a previous disc to install.

The Sorenson version is fairly expensive, right?

A revised product is being considered at $4ooo US which is a LOT more than Firecoder BLU. I hope it (Fircoder BLU) makes real compliant BD AVC otherwise it's useless really. If it does, it should sell thousands of units.

Not true at all Kenneally. Blu-ray AVCHD has a very strict set of parameters to be followed, I've seen it with ProCoder and I've seen it with Sorenson and MainConcept. There's settings for example in ProCoder that can't be manipulated that need to be to make them compatible. We'll wait and see I guess, fingers crossed.

True. Like I said, I don't know a huge deal about this board yet (I've been so immersed with v5 and HDSTORM for the web launch).

I do know that the Corel software we bundle with v5 seems to happily accept my sample AVCHD files without complaint..

You list HDSpark to provide HDMI output. Is this a live in-time-with-timeline output to drive a video monitor while editing?
Also, is there a means of ordering it with our v5 upgrades now, or must we wait for another announcement?

The EDIUS v5+HDSPARK package is a separate SKU sold later this year - I have no info regarding any upgrades (but Brandon and I certainly did ask the question).

You'll definitely be able to buy it before the current $249 deal runs out on the 31st of December, so if you want to wait a bit and see if there is an upgrade price...

The HDMI output will be synced with the timeline - that's the whole point of the product. (like all our purpose-built EDIUS boards)

It should co-exist with ACEDVio just fine - this is due in part to ACEDVio's OHCI lineage.

Because 99% of systems that could run an HDSTORM system, would have OHCI FireWire already with the mainboard.

Add to that the reduced usage of FireWire as a video transport medium as we move ahead, the cost of the circuitry on top of the board, and the fact that the 4-pin FireWire port would likely not be compatible with HDV anyway, it didn't make too much sense leaving HDSTORM stuck with a FireWire port.

Huh? I thought I had been capturing HDV via my 4 pin firewire connection. This statement confuses me. Then again, some say I'm easily confused.
