  • Automatic Rewind at Timecode Break

I'm capturing footage from a Mini DV from a Sony DSR-11 deck. At every time there is a rec stop, the capturing ends and the deck starts rewinding automatically like it was the end of the tape. No one in my job seems to know how can I fix it, and I've searched these boards for answers, only to find nothing.

This is driving me nuts, it's tedious to have to capture a thousand small clips AND having to stop the deck everytime there's a break. Can anyone help me?

do you have your Application settings\deck settings set up the way you want?

yes, I've tried everything, including ignoring errors when there's a timecode break, and it doesn't work.

This is VERY unusual. In using the the program in my personal production company for 5 years I have never seen this and I have never seen it reported. I know that is not helping much but at least you know it is not normal.

Have you checked all of the settings on the deck as well?

Well, I don't know if there ARE any settings in the deck, it's one those old DSR decks that don't even have a display. Edius has always rewound the tapes at the end, but it seems it found an issue with the tape, because it interprets each rec stop as an end of tape. Normally with dvcam tapes it doesn't do that, but it seems that with mini DV it's always like this. It's absolutely exhausting. Thanks for any tip on the subject.

Does it happen if you just captured it instead of batch captured?

I'm not batch capturing it. I think it would work out if I did, but I don't know the timecodes on the tape, and it would be double the work.

Well that is weird, if anything I thought batch captured was the one that screwed up, try in batch captured window manually type in from 00:00:10;00 to 01:00:00;00 and let it captured the whole tape, be sure to uncheck all of the automatically divde files option and see if you can work around it.

Ok... I am not sure what to say on this one! :)

It works with the DVCAM full size but not on the miniDV? That is to weird! I do wonder if it is a deck problem but I want to make sure we cover eerything to make things right for you if it is on our end.

I would suggest ccalling Tech support on this one. I am not sure that anyone has seen this before and they can try to help as well as document the problem also.

This is a shot in the dark, but go to Settings>Application Settings>Deck Settings, and check at the bottom of the first box and see what your Deck Control After Capture is set to. Try changing it.

                        Just a thought ,
but make sure the switch 'Auto Repeat'
at the back of your Sony deck is set to 'off'

I think that this maybe a deck problem. I have a friend who uses FCP and he has a similar problem with a DSR 11 deck.
