  • RAID question...

    Hi all,

Just installed a new RAID 1 backup for all my EDIUS files so I can't lose info while editing a very large job. Installing and testing the RAID installation, however, has led to what seems an unusual "read" situation. I was under the impression that RAID 1 was a pure "mirroring" setup, and that writing info was to BOTH disks, and READING was from only one disk, unless failure. On READING, I am getting the readback from both disks - alternating between them. That is - a burst from disk one, and then a burst from disk two - not at the same time (separate drive LED's showing each disk "read"). Maybe 1/2 second to a second each. I am definitely in a RAID 1 setup, mirroring with 2 1TB disks from one controller, and the drive properly shows 1TB in Explore. I'm new to RAID, and need some of you with more experience to advise on what seems to be a weird read indication.
Many thanks for your help, guys!
    Cheers,
    Alan

Here is a link with a similar question. The last response was getting closer to the answer I think.

The second line after goal answers your question. Even though it talks about boot drive, it applies to storage. I do not use raid 1 and cannot answer from experience. The 2 links should help you in some ways.
