  • Upgrade from 4.51 to 4.61 ????

Hi gang. I have always lived by the rules and suggestions here, but have a few problems with 4.51 - nothing major. It's always been suggested that an upgrade from one version to another is not adviseable while still working on a project. I still have 3 or 4 months left on a GIANT project, and want to ask what the "dangers" are if I upgrade to 4.61 now. Also - will all my plugins, VST's, special transistions and effects transfer over to the "upgrade"?

Appreciate the advise! And Pat (if you get here) - update me as to school?

    Cheers,
    Alan

    Alan,
It should update fairly easy. You are still within Edius 4.5 era. I would think that the vst's, transitions and effects will follow. You will have to update Xplode to 4.6 though.
Now, after all of that wonderful happy information, here is the down side.

It could fail. I doubt it though, but it could fail.

What are the issues that you are having with 4.51? Those might be fixed, and might not, depending on the severity.

If you were going from 3.x to 4.x I would defintely say hold off until the project is finished. Being that you are in the GV version of 4.5,
I think you will be ok.

I think your worst case scenario might be having to install the VST's, and any extra transition or filter packages.

If it were me, I would probably go ahead and do it, even if told not too. Thats just me.
This type of upgrade is mostly a bug fix upgrade any way.
Make sure you know where all of your files are....just in case. It doesn't hurt to be prepared.

I can confirm that applying the upgrade will probably not do any harm, but we would always recommend to create a restore point in windows and backup what you can just in case.

Using an imaging software like Acronis can be a quick and easy way of backing up.

I have never had a problem and I am always in the middle of projects

          here is what I do:

copy and paste the project file to the same folder, now the copy is called: Copy of project xxxx

          Install the Edius 4.61

open the copy and if all is well you are fine, if not, uninstall 4.61 and install previous version and open the original project

but I bet all is fine
