  • HDV capture problem

    Question 1:
I am using Sony HVRZ1U HDV 1080i camera (DVCAM) that records into MiniDV cassette but Edius v4.6 is not able to capture from the camera with all choices of capture provided in the HDV list. Can you please help me?

    Question 2:
In Edius v3.3 MPEG capture was provided in the list but where is it in Edius v4.6?

Its functionality was integrated into the software directly.

It will not capture 1920x1080, if that is your choice. For HDV you will be using a setting of 1440x1080 NTSC/PAL and your frame rate. If you are capturing DV/DVCAM from what I remember it just shows up as DV, unless you have Broadcast and you then can choose some other settings. I haven't captured DV/DVCAM in ages.

Sorry Jerry, I attempted all the choices provided in the list of capture including 1440X1080 with different frame rates but all were useless. I also changed the function of camera from HDV to DVCAM and nothing new happended for capture.

in the camera setup menu, what is the firewire output set to? HDV? DV?

were you shooting HDV or DV? if DV, then only DV out will work

if you were shooting HDV and the camera is set to down convert, then only DV capture will work

Are the choices grayed out? Can you choose the actual choice?
If yes to either, are you capturing through the NX or SP or are you capturing by way of an on board firewire?

Also, when you plug the camera into windows, does windows make a sound?
If not, you may have a bad firewire input or cable.
Also, I know this is a stupid question, but do you have SP2 installed in XP?

Try the manual setting for output.
Set it for either DV or HDV. Depending on the type tape that you have in the camera.
Make sure the camera responds within XP by way of the sound.
Do you have either the dv capture or mpeg capture programs under the Edius program header?
If not, you can download both of those at Canopus.com and go to the support section and sign in. Under product downloads choose Edius 4 and scroll down.
If it works this way, the Edius install might be screwy. If it does not work, the firewire input or cable defintely would be suspect.
