installing two different versiyon Edius

Hi, everyone. I just got a new station a couple of days ago. I started my new documantary editing with DV format. After 5 minutes capturing, "destination drive disk too slow" warning appeared. I'll try Mpeg2 capture, but working Mpeg with this station is sad. I searched the forums and tried some advices but my problem doesn't solve. At the office i have no such a problem with lower editing systems and old versiyon Edius softwares.

So, my question is; Is it possible to install and run two different Edius version at the same time on a machine. May be at Edius 4.10 or 3.5 the capture problem doesn't exist and after that i can editing with 4.61.

I don't think you can do that with ONE COPY of Windows. Since they both have common DLL that are bound to clash with one another.

You can however do this -

a) Partition your SYSTEM disk into 2.

b) Install Windows onto both partitions (use the same registration key - it will work as the Microsoft registration server will recognise this is coming from the same hardware).

c) On one Windows partition, install EDIUS 4.61. On the other Windows partition, install the older EDIUS.

d) Then you boot up into whichever partition you want for your EDIUS.

Yes it can, yes it does......I have a system running with bot 3.62, and 4.xx, and have no problems at all....I use 3.62, because of photo album plugin,which iI use al lot in my wedding videos....love that plugin........ and 4.xx for all my other stuff....plis it has a much nicer GUI..but 4 .xx works much faster. ...I often why ppls would want 2 edit with anything other than Edius...LOL

True, DVCapture is free and works like a dream......captures 3 streams at a time, and any length without breaks....been using it from the time it came out ....that was before Edius....came with Storm....

Same here, since the good old Storm days .............. Rock solid then, Rock solid now.

Still, I miss the audio level input meter like the passed on Storm Video, for the rest DVCapture Rocks !

True...that was a real plus..... somehow, I dont even like the audio level meter in Edius either.....wish it was in a seperate pallette like the scope...something that can work alone or be snapped into a plllette.....with the vertical or horizontal option.maybe someone will see my post and try that for an upgrade.....yet, it is good where it is for when I send a demo for clients to edit.....they cant copy and keep, have to come back to me hehehehe.....yeh, but a more decent and flexable audio level meter would be nice

Canopus days I have been asking Live Audio Metering for Capture (Edius or DVCapture) since ver. 1.0 and as reward they took it out of Storm Video.

After GV took over I did send numerous e-mails to Sales, Development, Tech support, any mail address I could find, even posted several threads and reply's here on the forum.

It looks that Video oriented people are only bothered about video, audio is a by product and that shows in Edius, even the 3 frame delay for every VST you throw at the time line has yet to be resolved, I bet it's still there in Ver. 5 !

I understand your problem. That's why I have Sound Forge to do my audio !!! Since I migrated over to P2 (no more capture - goodiie !!) - I haven't seen this lack of audio metering as a sore point anymore.

However, even if you can see the audio level at capture - what is the use then? Recording levels that are too high or too low should not be corrected at capture stage ... They should be adjusted at the point of recording and NOT after that.

Tingsern, you are looking at this issue from a post production point of view, how ever, there are numerous people using it for live event capturing.

If you only work in an office environment and capture from tape you are absolutely right, no point to see the level.

If however you carry around your work station any use edius to capture straight from the video mixer and live sound mixer it is essential that you have proper audio metering (like storm video those days)

Many people (like me, but who have no time to participate in forums) are doing live events and the client request a dvd as soon as possible which requires me to capyure straight to hard drive and edit on location, I simply do not have the time to load tape after tape in the office.

The last couple of years I have been forced to use an external audio app. to monitor the DVstorm or NX card's audio output as a means of checking the levels, not that accurate and of course a lot of delay in that.

Of course any serious audio editing is not to be expected inside Edius, but I think an input audio level meter would not be too much to ask.

Anyway, I'm quite happy with Edius 4.61, it for fills my needs at present and therefore will not upgrade to ver. 5 if the audio & marker section is not overhauled.

GV should think more outside "their" box and see that Edius is used in more than just post studio environment, I have never seen a good live capturing / editing soft / hardware system (that is affordable) If I find one I will switch in a heartbeat.

If that is the case of doing live events and editing on the spot, then tapes will be the wrong medium. You should be looking at P2 cards - or at least a Firestore Hard-disk ... that kind. No need to capture at all. I always carry to location my audio mixer (Sound Devices MixPre - excellent audio level indicator) - far much better than any software based audio meter can show. I think you should relook into your tools of trade and optimise them.
