  • RexRT Pro urgent query

I know - it's old, it's the wrong forum probably BUT........... does anyone know ehere I can get an answer to this question?

My RexRT Pro breakout box has RGB input connections. I tried without success to capture Component video from a Sony J30 digibeta deck. EDIUS settings are set to Component in Channel 1 and 2. But I never get any video showing up.

Composite and S video are fine as is Firewire. Any thoughts please?

What is the likely loss by capturing S video of out the Digibeta deck?

    many thanks Chris

ps if you can point me to the right forum or user that would be great urgent job on a news piece!!!

DVREX input is not RGB But YUV. Make sure you connect YUV output
    of the Digibeta Player.
Also check with DVREX properties for Input channel Mapping and make sure it is selected Component input.

      Properties not an issue.

The only output from the back of the J30 DigiBeta dec is Y - RY - BY

What does that mean in terms of compatibility with RexRT Pro breakout box inputs?

      thanks Chris

        That should be fine. Y-Y, Pb-BY, Pr-RY
Make sure you have Ref In connected from the Digibeta's Ref out, or its Composite out.

Brandon - tried what you said but no joy. The J30 deck has an External Sync output and Composite output but not Ref Output as such.

R= G= B= what is the correct equivalent? As above?

          thanks Chris

            G ~ Y
            R ~ Pr / Y-R
            B ~ Pb / Y-B

On the RexRT Pro b/o box is it safe to assume the order of the BNC Component IN is RGB from left to right? Or does it only accept YUV and is that the order from left to right?

Whatever I choose I still dont getan input signal from the Sony J30 apart from Composite, or S video and I presume Firewire although I haven't tried that. thanks Chris

You have to correctly connect each cable to the corresponding input on the RexRT or else it will not work.

First of all connect the Y output from your deck to the RexRT and check the output from the Rex. If you get some type of signal then continue with the Pb and Pr. Your digibeta deck probably supports both YUV & RGB, maybe you need to go into the menu and change it to YUV. Maybe it's not automatic.

Yes I've tried the stupid menu on the J30 can't even see an option to change output.

I've actually captured everything on the S video option now - it looks pretty good although I'm sure there's some colour loss that the naked eye can't distinguish.

I've edited it all together and the client is pleased - but then we haven't sent it out to the TV newsrooms yet!! I guess the audio changes from room to room and then outdoors will freak them out................. ah well there's always Info-mercials for the web.

                  I'll try those leads again.

Coming from digitbeta you will see a difference between component and s-video...however, since you're using DVRexRT to capture, it captures to the DV codec which is 4:1:1...that means you will not see a huge difference between these two inputs, but try to use component if you can. If you were capturing to a 4:2:2 codec, you would see a difference.

Thanks Dave One saving grace is that the newsrooms have said to send the B Roll on dvCAM - which is useful as it seems a less exacting set of rules maybe??

Maybe they already did the conversion for you so you're good to go :)
                        Firewire captures are easy hehe

If they liked the quality via s-video then you should be fine. If nothing else works maybe your your DVRex ports are dead? Who knows. It is older than 10 years now heh.

YUV only, and Y is on one of the ends. Once you figure out which one is Y (you'll get no signal without) then there are only two options left for Pb and Pr.
