  • new PC configuration and possible issues

After using the Adobe suite for several years, a colleague (user Bart) recommended me the Edius suite for it's more stable and faster work in video editing. Because I planned to buy a new pc this or next year and being convinced by hem, I've asked some offers by our local dealers. This is a configuration I've got. Would there be any issues or recommendations? E.g. I don't know about Intel motherboards, I've always used Asus. What with the vga (ATI or Geforce?), also here on the forum a discussion, I've seen. I won't work with Premiere, but would still use After Effects, Photoshop, Encore and so on. Hold this in mind by giving me advice on the underneath configuration.

    motherboard: Intel DP35DP SATA/DDR2/FSB1333/3PCI/3PCIe/1PCIe 16x/ATX
    cpu: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz FSB1066 2x4MB Boxed
    ram: APACER DDR2 2048MB (2 x 1024MB PC5300/667)
    vga: XFX Geforce 8400GS 512MB DDR2 PCI-E TV-Out/DVI
or vga: ATI Sapphire HD3870 XT 512 DDR4 (infocaster)
    hd1: HDD 250GB 7200RPM S-ATA300 8MB CACHE 11MS
    hd2: HDD 500GB 7200RPM S-ATA300 16MB CACHE 11MS
    hd3: HDD 500GB 7200RPM S-ATA300 16MB CACHE 11MS
    FW: Lacie Firewire 800
netwerk: Gigabit Lan integrated on board
    sound integrated on board
Case: Yang 5604 Midi Case P4 Dual Core, Pro Power Supply
    OS: Win XP prof (OEM)
Edius Creative HD Suite, incl Edius NX Board, Edius Pro 4.6, Heroglyph V2.6 Full, Vitascene V1 Full, Mercalli Expert V1 Full
    Edius NX bay

    Optional Edirol UA-25 als audio-interface

Second: I've heard, a couple of major improvements would come with V5, would it be worth to wait on this new version? I always prefer full versions instead of upgrades, because of upgrades always bring issues with. If I now buy the 4.6 suite, it would be disappointed if v5 comes e.g. in Januar. For that I could wait and have the new one. The next 3/4 months my pc wouldn't be used that much for editing.
Would this v5 also come with the Prodad software bundled? Because of that's the big advantage of this HD suite (a couple of euros more for some great software)

The simple answer to all of this is to wait. As far as what is bundled with the next version, we will know when it is released. We do know that it will work on Vista 32 and 64 bit as well as XP Pro 32.
The specific type bundle that you described sounds like a retail store bundle and not from Grass Valley.

I've seen the HD creative suite bundle on many websites yet. In Belgium, it comes like that from the official dealer, so I don't think it's store dependent.

Of course I can wait, but one can wait long of course. How are users experiencing upgrades from previous versions (v3->v4)?

And what about my first question: is it a good configuration or what can be better?

      Thank you

There are manufacturer bundles (from the factory), regional bundles (technically these are also manufacturer bundles, but specific to particular regions), and dealer bundles (the dealer puts these together themselves).

IIRC, the Creative HD Suite Bundle is a regional bundle, but I could be remembering wrong.

It will more than likely work. Do a search for that motherboard on the forum.
We are talking E4. All bets are off for E5. The ram is little slow for the fsb.

I've asked the dealer and it seems to be an European promotional bundle, ending in December.

Now V5 has been released, I ask again: what could be better on this configuration to get V5 working without issues? I also want to get Adobe's applications Photoshop After Effects and Encore working on it and an occasional use of premiere.

Jerry, you've mentoined FSB <=> RAM, which RAM would you prefer then?

The support of GV already suggested to use the Geforce instead of the ATI. Buying a new PC isn't the thing I do every month and for me it's quite an investment, so al other suggestions are welcome.
