  • I have the shakes!

Since I started shooting with my EX-1 hand held, I continue to mess up a good shot trying to get focus. I bought a shoulder brace but when using it I had to use the fold out monitor rather than the eye piece. In the bright sun it just does not work. So I am shooting handheld and many times I get a bad shake when trying to get focus. I saw the product by Prodad (Mercalli) that is supposed to work with Edius 4.x.

Question: Does it Work as advertised?
What effect does it have on the audio?

    Thanks folks....

    It does as it says!

I've saved badly shaken walking shots and they end up looking like steadycam.
Because it's an imperfect world, I've also had some that look seasick and go in the trash.

I guess that since I shoot and edit in HDV then down convert to SD dvd
for my end product that I should order the Expert version since the lite version works only in SD.

Your audio does not need any stabilizing I hope?:) Because Mercali only touches the video.

No the audio is fine. Just the shaky camera shots from moving my hand to the focus ring. The Ex is not very easy to hand hold. However, the nature of the video requires me to move quickly from up on a tall platform about 30 feet above a stadium, down to the track quickly. I am just getting there huffing and puffing when I need to be shooting trying to get focus. Then I have to run back up the stadium climb up a ladder to my perch before the next race starts. By the time of the last race I am quite pooped.

You can see an example of the shakes here www.magnoliaspeedway.net
              or here www.dirtracingvideo.com.

These two clips were not as bad as some. Some times they are worse.

              Thanks for your help

                Ronnie:

We just bought it at the office, and it does work as advertised. If you check out www.digitaljuice.com, you may still be able to buy it for half price.

filming a bent mirror or something liket that.....
Is there something I am missing ?

Some settings work better than others.
The bending is a real problem, so experiment.
It's not perfect, but can save some (not all) shots.
